I recently moved the Athens, TX and am interested in hunting javelina this year. For some reason I always wanted to get one or two. Since i just got here, I'm currently without a place to hunt. Anybody got any info on some places I could go after some of these? I'm in Athens which is about 60 miles south of Dallas in Henderson County but I'm not afraid to drive a couple of hrs if need be.

I've got no problem driving to where the game is. So any advice?

There are places in Northern Texas where Javelina have been 'introduced', but I doubt you'd find a property that would allow you to hunt them. Your best bet (for good populations) is to head South. Some of the best populations exist starting about Encinal (and Southward, also to the West). Check the game laws before going on a hunt.

Don't know if you plan to hunt with firearms or archery equipment, but the little critters seem tailor made for bow-hunting, if you are so inclined.

That red area is where you want to be. Fun stuff. Worth the drive every couple years or so.

There are plenty out west. Always seen them in Seymour.

El Paso and Hudspeth counties have tons of Javelina!

I don't "harvest" any animal. I kill them. Including javelina. Any you are right. Not much for eating. But coyotes don't eat well. Coons don't eat well. Rats don't eat well. Opossum doesn't eat well. Nutria doesn't eat well. Skunk doesn't eat well . . . shall I go on?

Actually no you really shouldn't go on!! What the hell are you talking about? Harvest, kill, whack, smoke, smackdown I don't give a rats a$$ what you call it! Don't spew your misinformation and law breaking on a public forum however. Looks like someone needs to read their outdoor annual and be a responsible sportsman. Javelina in Texas are a game species with a specific season and BAG LIMIT. https://tpwd.texas.gov/landwater/land/habitats/trans_pecos/big_game/javelina/
The are not Coyotes, coons or possums. If you kill a javelina in Texas you'd better make an attempt to process it! http://www.statutes.legis.state.tx.us/Docs/PW/htm/PW.62.htm

Javelinas are mean little boogers that are not scared of much.

For the record, let me say that coon can be quite tasty. As for javelina, if you can cook it and make it tasty, then you are a culinary artist.

I know a guy that slow cooked a javelina in his oven for 8 hours and it turned out pretty good. Just saying!

To answer your question. Lincoln Ranch, Callaghan Ranch, and many more. Do check the game laws and dates!!!!
