Went for a pre rut hunt with my brother at one of our private blocks in South Australia just keen to see if anything was about but mostly to take a meat animal.
By 7am morning we'd spotted a spiker about 300m but given that we hadn't had a chance to sight in my brothers Blaser R8 with the new 7mmRM barrel we were using his 9.3x62 and he wasn't confident of that shot with it. When all of a sudden I spotted a movement and here 400m going over the crest of a hill is this white looking buck with these huge paddles swaying from side to side, he paused at the top of the hill, rubbed a tree and disappeared over the otherside.
We quickly made our way around to the bush where we thought he'd bed up and after a nervous wait wondering if we'd missed him I spotted him heading straight for us! My brother managed to neck shoot him at 100m and put a finisher into the chest.
He turned out to be even better than we thought 28pts and 29 3/4" long he's easily the best wild fallow I've seen. And in the very coveted Menil colour phase (that and white are the hardest of the four to get here). The only downside was that he'd broken off his right guard tine and with it quite a bit of antler, by the look of the break it would have been the same as the left side, but no matter he's a great trophy all the same.

An amazing hunt and an amazing animal, it makes me wonder after this and taking my hog deer in February, can this year get any better!!!

I prefer meat in it's original packaging.

Thanks all, matpk this was in South Australia. I hunt fallow there and in my state of Victoria. Numbers are better in Vic but trophy quality is much better in SA.
