I am getting a UTV for the upcoming year and i am pretty sure I have narrowed it down to 2 but since i have never owned one i was hoping yall might be able to answer a few questions i had

1. the main reason i want to get a utv is some of the roads on our lease get pretty bad once the rain starts coming in and makes it hard to get a truck back to some of the areas to fill feeders or when you do shoot something you have to drag it 2 miles through the water to get to the truck, my question is on flooding a engine on a utv, my buddy told me as long as the engine is on it wont flood but i always heard it had to be on and you cant let off the gas or water will get sucked up anyone know for sure which is true?

2. so i got to get a trailer for this thing and was looking at one axle trailers and the specs for the utv say its 1587 lbs and the trailer says it can hold 1756 lbs but the trailer guy says they under estimate the weight and it can hold more than that, i might of miss heard him but i think he said around 2000 lbs anyone know if this is true?

3. anyone know of any good utv and trailer places around Houston i should check out before i make up my mind i don't mind driving to find a good utv dealer or trailer dealer so it dosnt have to be in the city limits just not in Austin

and finally since this is my first utv/atv and first trailer do yall have any advice for me that you wish someone would of told you before you got everything just some help ful hints

My 2 cents....

1. It difficult to flood out the engine of a UTV. Buddy is right, just needs to stay running. I don't think letting off the gas is an issue as long as it still runs.

2. With the weight you are describing I'm assuming your looking at a crew. I would look at a dual axel trailer. Not only will it trailer better, you will get better tire wear if you tow long distances. I don't like to push the upper limits of the trailer, especially if you want to put other gear on the trailer with the UTV.

3. If you don't mind the drive and are looking Polaris, try Hoffpauir in Goldthwaite.

I ended up getting my polaris crew from Mancuso power sports on SW Frwy. They beat Hoffpauir and Polaris fun Center both of which are on my route to ranch from Houston. there are dealers all over just shop them, I used the internet to email and shop apples to apples when I new what I wanted and with what option I added to get a drive out price and had them email to me. Also, Found a guy on craiglist The Trailerman that has lots of trailers at good pricing. Purchased a single wheel 6 x 12 that works perfect for mine and I can drag around easily with Ranger

Best prices on a UTV used to be Tommy Vaughn in the Houston area and Columbus and beat Hoffpauir on price.

As for a trailer, for my 3010 Trans Mule I use a 5x12 single axle trailer (3500lb axle with 15" wheels). It goes down the road perfect and I drive two hours each way to my lease and house many times a year. I looked for awhile and it may or may not fit in a 5x10 but I wanted a little extra room. I found someone selling 5x10's for a good price and style I liked and had them make a 5x12 for hardly any extra. I have an 18' all steel dovetail tandem axle trailer but it is way too heavy and large just to pull the Mule around. I burn a lot less fuel with that small trailer and it's small enough that my wife feels safe to drive and pull. If this is your one and only trailer you might want a little larger trailer for other uses. On a side note, with the new one sticker registration most all tandem axle trailers will now be required to get an annual inspection. A single axle will be exempt from inspection if it has 3500# axles.

Have a 2011 Polaris Ranger 400 HO (dry weight 1050 lbs) with a Big Tex Model 30SA Trailer (Capacity 2,595 GVWR). Never had problem with Ranger or trailer.

One point to add to your question about flooding the engine...keep the air filter above water. If you're worried about deep water, you could put a snorkel on and make sure everything is siliconed/sealed up good on the intake plumbing and you shouldn't have any worries about deep water at all.
