I'm looking for a suppressor for a SIG Mosquito and came across an ad for the AAC Pilot 2 (priced at $260). Not wanting to spend a fortune for a can on a plinker, while wanting to get the best sound suppression (least bang for the buck), I'm wondering if there are better options?

Haven't shot the Pilot. I've got a Spectre II myself and it works awesome. I originally wanted the Sparrow, but then came across a deal on the Spectre II that I couldn't pass up. Most of the .22 suppressors are going to be close in perceived sound reduction. The main thing you want to pay attention to is first round pop (FRP). The guys at Silencer Shop recommended the spectre II because it had a lower FRP than the others.

I have an AAC Element and a SS Sparrow. The Element is definitely quieter but is probably the most expensive rimfire suppressor. I wish I had bought another instead of the Sparrow. I've heard really good things about the Pilot.

Bought a pilot in December still waiting for the stamp but I heard nothing but good things about them.

I have a Sparrow, Specrete 2, and three Pilot 2s. Yes, I have three Pilot 2s.

I bought three of them because they're cheap, light, and quiet. Regarding FRP, Pilot is as good as the other two, to my ears. It's also probably better that my Sparrow, on a pistol, due to it's baffle stack (Sparrow is mono-core, which has worse FRP). And with it weighing it at about 2/3 the weight and size of the other two I have, it's my favorite for 22lr. You'll really notice the size/weight difference, when you stick these cans on a 22 pistol.

The only real negative of my Pilot is that it doesn't do 22mag/17hmr/5.7, which is why I have the Sparrow and Spectre. But as a 22r can, it's really hard to beat. Don't get too caught up in exact decibel ratings and such, as one or two DBs are hard it notice. I am telling you that these little Pilots are GtG, for 22lr. Actually, the Pilots are my favored cans for all my 22s, and the others live on my 17hmrs.

I would, however, check to see if AAC is bringing back their $200 store credits. I wound up also getting two EVO 9s (also around $300ea) and three Pilots, when the promo was running. I then used the $1,000 AAC credits to get a 9" 300 BO upper, a Geiselle trigger, and a few other things... they were running a sale on these items, so I pretty much paid nothing out of pocket.

I didn't think about the $200 credit on the 22 cans. Nice idea.
Silencer Shop had a deal where you buy the Harvester 30 and get the Spectre II for $99. I was already considering the Harvester anyway so it was a no-brainer for me.

Ha, that's how I got my Spectre... and the Harvester. Harvester is sitting on a 300 BO bolt and Spectre II on a 17hmr bolt, as I type this.

I got the Gemtech GM 22 from DSG in Ft. Worth. They are running a special on this Mono core can for $250. Love the can, but there is a first round pop. One nice thing, you can use a 1/4" drive socket at the end of the can to break it loose if it gets seized up.

Thanks for the input -- especially the links.

One more question: Is it common practice to put thread lock (presumably blue) on the thread adapter (my Sig Mosquito requires an adapter for the factory threaded barrel)?

I never use any thread lock on mine. I guess you could if you don't ever plan on switching it out or taking it off, but you may have a heck of a time getting it off and I imagine it could gum up the threads.
