Hey guys. Just got word that I'll be going to Montana for a mule deer/whitetail hunt in November.
I'll be rolling my own ammo for this one. Shots should be around 300 possibly out to 500. Shooting a 1975 Remington 700 in 30-06. I was thinking about going with a 180gr barns triple shock or a nosler partition. Any other suggestions or thoughts on the above bullets?

Both of those bullets are good. I hunt mule deer with a 30\06 and 300 wsm with a 165 grain ballistic silvertip. This is a coated bullet and it gives me more velocity, and the ballistic tip opens well up at long ranges.

I run Barnes and Nosler in my 30.06 and have never had any issues with either one. Good luck on your hunt!

If you go with the barnes I would would drop down to the lightest weight you can, 180 grain out of a 30-06 is too heavy/slow especially for shots at distance.
It's hell eatin em live

I'd go with a 165 Accubond or Ballistic Tip if you're serious about 3-500 yards.

Yup! The 165 Accubond is my go-to 30 cal bullet.

Yep, Barnes need to be run light for caliber to really be effective. I would opt for the Accubond or something similar that provides the accuracy you desire at long range to include the devastation needed for a hunting bullet.
I was wrong...on anything technical. Fitz............. is right, ya know............

The Ballistic Silvertip Bullet and the Accubond are the same bullet basically the only difference's is the Accubond is bonded to the jacket for controlled expansion and the silver tip is coated for a little higher speed. The barnes is a longer bullet and is made of copper and most hunters go with a smaller size for more velocity. I have used the Ballistic Silvertip, the Partition and Barnes. I would try some in my rife and see what shoots best.

Partitions.
I've used both 150 & 180 gr. in the .30-06. I used the 180s when hunting both mulies and elk the same season. TC
