No, but when I do build one, that's exactly what it's going to be.

Yep. And it shoots flawlessly and very cheap ammo! Make sure you buy the enhanced firing pin. Also if you plan to use reduced weight trigger springs thats fine but you will need to use full power or extra power hammer springs.

I'm currently working on my upper. All I have at this point is my 6.8 barrel. what stripped upper are you running? and what budget rail are you thinking?

Very little difference in speed. I'd run a 16".

Settled on a 16. Now im waiting on alot of stuff to be delivered. Now i wanna put it together and shoot it. Ive never owned or even shot a 7.62x39 and i have no idea why i decided to build one on an ar platform.

Because ammo is cheap, and it's a better hunting round in basically every way than the .223.

When I get around to building an AR it'll be a 7.62. I miss my AK.

I'm clearly out of touch with the semi-auto world, but I didn't even realize parts were readily available to build an AR in 7.62x39. That's pretty cool.

Caribou is right that ammo is dirt cheap and it's a better hunting round than .223. I love my SKS. Might have to add an AR in 7.62 to my ever-growing "want" list now...

There are a ton of calibers available for the AR platform now. The most common ones, off the top of my head:

.223/5.56
7.62x39
5.45x39
7.62x51/.308
6.8spc II
300 blackout
9mm

There are barrels chambered for just about anything nowadays, though. 243 wssm to 300 win mag, even. It might be worth looking into if you aren't a fan of .223, but like semi-autos.
