Hey y'all I have been looking into some hog lights to attach to our solar powered feeders at our lease. I can't afford a thermal or night vision but I can afford a feeder light lol. So my question is, what are your experiences with some of these lights and what affect do they have on the hogs (do they spook them). Also any recommendations are wanted. I have been looking into a Moultrie feeder hoglight but just wanted to check here before. Thanks!

Bought two of the moultrie lights 2 months ago. They are plenty bright even on low. My plan was to leave them on motion every night so the hogs would get used to them. Well in order to do that you have to order the solar panel power pack. I did and fully charged the light only last an hour. New plan is to leave em the way they are and when I go to hunt put the aa's in and see if they will last all night set on motion. Shouldn't be a problem if you have only hogs coming in or if they come in right At dark. My problem is to many rabbits setting of the motion detector and power is drained by the time the hogs show up.

Also the hogs and deer didn't seem to mind the light at all. First night a little skittish second night no prob. I have a short ground feeder and the light is three ft off the ground and shines right above their heads and they don't seem to mind.

I put up solar pathway/walkway lights. 3@7.00 each from Lowes and they provide me with plenty of light to see for broadside/vital shots. My lights stay on vs. motion sensor and this doesn't affect the pigs.

There are quite a few DIY videos on YouTube for solar feeder lights.

I have the feeder "kill" light by UNV. I do not have a solar charger on it, so I just hang it below the feeder whenever I am hunting. It does NOT spook the animals. It comes on at low brightness, and then increases to full intensity. Questionable as to whether it, by itself, would be enough for you to get a clean shot at 100 yards. I also had a sniper hog green rifle light, but have since switched over entirely to night vision and infrared. Thermal next!!!!!!!

i have been using The Kill Light by Elusive wildlife. I have had it up since mid-december and have had zero issues with it and it puts out great light. They have 2 types, one that comes on from dusk to dawn and the other that has a motion sensor in it. I went with the motion sensor. We can sit on the pourch at the ranch and see the light come on and see animals under it at just over 200 years away

I also use the motion sensor light. It runs for a reasonable long time on four C batts but it also runs on dxternal 6 or 12 volts. It attaches to bottom of feeder with several strong magnets. I tried attaching it to my 12v/9ah feeder batt and it worked until the batt died. So now I'm considering relocating it to a bracket on the winch leg and running wires down to huge deep cycle battery on big solar panel that powers the Warn winch.
The light does not spook the animals because it comes on dim and eases up. It also doesn't blind my Covert 3G cam so I have great pics. I went with the white light.

Do y'all think there is a way I can hook up the feeder light to the solar panel on the feeder? Just a thought

My buddy and I are designing our own hog light system. We are in the testing phase now. If all goes as planned, we intend to sell them on THF much less than the competition. Stay tuned...

Get the 12V LED lights.. Have them hooked to a small (tractor or motorcycle) battery.. Then hook that to a solar charger.. This will keep them on all night long if you want to and you will get a lot more brightness for your money...

The RED or GREEN LED light spectrum does not bother deer or hogs. BUT LED ONLY.. not a regular light with a red lens that will spook them away. See pic below. Light stays on all night when I hunt.. Lights up 75 yards out

I just went to Walmart and bought some of these solar yard lights. Cost about $10 each. Then I went to Hobby Lobby and bought some green cellophane plastic. Duct taped it around the lights. They have hollow stems that attach nicely to some trimmed cedar trees. Or some I duct tape to branches or the feeder. They work great! Only thing is, when it rains you have to go let some water out, if your duct taping wasn't tight enough. They have an off/on switch. So I usually turn them all off, except for one to condition the game, and let them keep charging until I go out hunting. I have also done this with some cheap 6volt LED lanterns I bought at The Home Despot. You can get about 100 hours out of one battery and they are much brighter (about $5). My buddies and I have taken over 4 hogs with this cheap fix for hog lights. When the cellophane gets muddy and licked by coons or cattle, take it off and replace. I will say that the solar yard lights are only about 10 lumens, but with 3 or 4 of them pointed at different spots, it's enough to see your reticle on the hogs at 70 yards, which is about the distance I am shooting from. The LED lanterns really kick it up a notch. Below you can see the sounder is unaffected by the 3 solar yard lights I placed out. They came out the first time I put them out, so they didn't need to be conditioned.

Only thing is, make sure you use multiple layers of cellophane, maybe 3 or 4, or the light will be too bright. Just fold it over a few times. FYI: the cellophane is hard to work with, so have your tape cut up ahead of time. You will need multiple lights to make this effective. I noticed the Westinghouse lights at Walmart are 15 Lumens.

FWIW,

I had a couple of the Harbor Freight lights on my BBQ area. Was just at Walmart over the weekend and saw the $10 lights. Picked one up to compare them, no comparison the Walmart lights are much brighter and cast their light over a larger area.

I'm no expert, but from what I have read the colored covering is not really needed.
