Why is it that different calibers in basically the same gun can have such a cost variance? They all have virtually the same parts when they are the same size, as far as the internals. Aren't just the barrels different? Sure there are minuscule differences in parts but hundreds difference in cost, based on caliber only? That don't make sense to me

Here is the Reader's Digest version;
Glock has several different frames for their pistols. The new Glock 42 is now the baby and is in .380
The 9mm, 40 and 357 sigs have there size frames. Of those there are 3; the sub compact (Glock 27 for example) the compact (Glock 19) and full size (Glock 22 for example). You can get some that are compensated and that costs more.
There are the long slide pistols and the big ones like the 10mm and .45 and the .45 has a compact.
They now come in single stacked models.
The differences cause the prices to change.
Yes, some of the parts will interchange. Since I left Training I have put most of my Glock books away. I am one of their L/E Advanced Armorers and kept up on it more then. My books list what is interchangable. While some of the parts seem to be the same, don't be fooled. There are extractors that look the same but their angle is wrong. I was lucky to receive one of the first Glock 22's that came out. The extractor was wrong and Glock took it back. They answered to L/E needs for a long time. They still take care of us but are also focusing on the competition shooters and civilians.
Hope that explains it some. This could have been LONG.

Demand drives the price of each model and caliber. Look at GT Distibutors they have them for the same orice regardless of caliber

Nothing in particular. Just notice a huge swing in pricing when I do look around in classifieds here and there. $400 all the way to $950. Not pointing fingers or anything, just wondering why certain calibers seem to cost way more

Are you talking about used guns? Their new Glocks have three pricing tiers, 9/40/357, 45GAP, and 45ACP/10mm.

BigPig was correct when he said that the demand does affect the price, somewhat. The large frame guns have a price. The 9mm, 40 and 357sig have a price. Some may put aftermarket items on a Glock and try to charge more for it. When the .380's came out I was seeing some pretty high price tags, and some were paying it. I did not have to pay that price, and didn't need one that bad if I would have had to.

Yes sir. I should have specified that. I'm just talking about the used market. And mostly everything gen 3 and up.

I think it's the 45 and 10mm price that gets me. They can be so much higher, for what I feel to be basically the same parts. (Knowing they aren't exactly the same, you know what I mean). The parts don't cost anymore to make, I wouldn't think. I guess it would solely rely on demand.

I don't keep up with the pricing much anymore Frog because I am not in the market for any others right now. The 10's and 45's do cost more, but not in the 900 dollar range. Some parts will interchange, but not that many between the large frame (45) to, what I call the standard frame (9mm) but there has never been a huge difference in price when I have bought mine.

.45 and 10 will always run a little higher, not exactly sure why but they also aren't as easy to just walk into some stores and find compared to the 9 and 40 versions. pricing on the 9 and 40 usually seems to run cheaper, but used versions of the 40's can be had at great discounts especially leo tradein.

then you get into the tactical models, which will always cost more. and the 17L run's higher now too because i think it was discontinued (might be wrong but they dont pop up as often)

Just my opinion here, but so many of these Glock ads are for guns with expensive additional stuff, such as aftermarket sights, various internals, holsters, etc. I just don't think you get your money back on the extras. The sights one person likes may not be what the next person wants. Holsters are really a personal preference. I don't want a holster at all. I see deals on here all the time where they have a $100 holster, and their price factors in $100 for that holster.

And an IWB holster?, even if I did want a holster, I'm not about to wear another man's used IWB holster. That's like buying used underwear. barf

Never had thought of IWB in that manner.

back I believe if sellers had to pay for advertising before placing the ad the prices would become more standard. Way it is on THF there is no cost so if you wish to buy or sell you can list any price. Similar to putting a "4 sale" sign on the old tractor and parking it by the fence. You will notice the better buys do not last long, whether on a Glock or Colt or Sig.
