I found a cow bone out in the pasture that I want to make into a knife handle but don't who where to start with the sealing/stabilizing. Do any of y'all cut and seal bone for your handles?

I've used camel, giraffe, mammoth and stellar sea cow bone, but I've never found a cow bone yet that would make decent scales. For the most part they are too porous with the outer bark to thin to use but maybe I just haven't tried the right bone.

How do you seal the other types of bones that you've used?

I use a product called called cactus juice that you can get from TurnTex Woodworks. It involves a vacuum chamber and then heat curing. There are several places that will do the stabilization for you.

The cactus juice looks good. What kind of vacuum chamber do you use? Did you build it or buy the cactus juice chamber?

I built my own. It's simple to do.
