I know I probably should not start this but what the heck. Does free range mean it is confined in a so called LF? Since they do not usually jump a LF how can this be considered free range? A BB or Mouflon jumping a LF happens about as much as a deer jumps a HF. Does free range mean that they are able to go through a barb wire fence? Excuse all the questions but I am abnormally confused.

My dad's lease they as a good amount Blackbucks. The first day I went out there with him someone told me that all of the Blackbucks were in one pasture since "they caint jump fences." Well, they drove dad and I around to show us the place and I saw a Blackbuck doe and buck hop a fence without even getting a running start.
Also, they aren't easy to hunt either. I was with my dad when he was hunting a pretty nice one. Even though the pasture he was in was only 300 acres, it was far from shooting something in a confined area. Those things are like hunting pronghorn. The does seem pretty dumb, but the bucks are always looking and walking around their harem of does and bolt away at any mis-step of a hunter. He finally shot him but it was only when we happened to catch him coming to a water trough.

I got the same experience in central Texas in a H.F. Someone offered a good deal to thin out some BB Does, in 150 acre. We planned to hunt 6+ does. The first was easy but thereafter.... It took us whole day to get another three..we shot only 4 round though. That was my first HF experience. Now I only hunt HF...

I have seen many sheep and goat fences that are 4 feet. And whitetail fawns cannot jump them. Most older will jump them, but not all will. It is nothing strange to see a herd of whitetail jump a fence and leave the young'ns (fawns and yearlings) behind. So I figured this whole nation has HFed in/out fawns and buffalo.

Eventually, blackbuck, axis, mouflon, etc... will be as native to Texas as Whitetail deer. I have seen some in the Panhandle where I hunt running wild; big country, low fence.
How come everybody I meet is a deer hunting expert?

In my opinion "free range" almost always means that the area you are hunting in, only has low fences, it does not matter if the animal can jump the fence or not only the height of the fence.

I am sorry but I do not understand the reasoning of your opinion. If an animal needs a 8' fence to contain it is considered a HF and not fair chase? But a different animal only needs a 4' fence to contain it then that is considered fair chase? Interesting

Free range means just what it says-it can go wherever it wants. Probably why about half the well-to-do kids in Dallas have a blackbuck antelope on the wall.

if you do not think Mouflon can jump a fence.. well.. this is a pen with a fence: I hear people say "Axis drive off WTD.. but I have seen them eating alongside each other. I have had people tell me all sorts of things that can't ever happen, and yet I see pictures of it happening. If the animals can roam around and are not restricted to an area, it is "low fence"... eventually, they all run into a high fence, or...hell.. a road. Bottom line though, if you think it is free range, low fence, high fence...all that matters. Anyone wanting to split hairs about it can do it till they are blue in the face. Unless you are on 30,000 acres, not much 'free range' left out there.. heh Russ
Hunting is easy..it's getting permission from your wife that is tough.

^^^ That last statement makes no sense. If there's no barrier they can't cross wild animals are as free in TX as they are in the Serengeti. The deer on my Crockett place can go to Houston if they want to.

ok, I was bored.. my point is.. just because it has a "fence" on it and the people think "sheep can't jump".. does not make them "high fenced" animals.
1 - they can jump
2 - high fence means a high fence.. not a fence a short goat might not be able to jump..

Mr. Russell. Just because one sheep, and that is not a Mouflon, can jump a low fence does not mean they all can. There are people on the Olympic team that can jump over 7'. That does not mean we all can. So if only that sheep can jump a low fence it makes it OK to call it "Fair Chase"?
