I am considering a .22 AR build. I want a .22 on an actual AR platform so I can practice and plink on the cheap. Any suggestions on uppers or complete rifles out there that are good for this? Thanks in advance.

M&P 15 .22 is a good one.

Don't get mossberg 15t. They are not good. The m&p is really good. I've shot it a few times. I like it a lot. I sold my 15t cause it was so bad. If I was going do buy one I would buy m&p or just build up my 10-22.

M&p 15-22 gets my vote if you want a dedicated 22 ar rifle

I have an M&P 15-22 and it is a lot of fun. I would recommend it to anyone. I also own a 10-22 but the M&P is my preference

If you want an actual ar lower (to swap between uppers) or are using an existing ar lower, look at dedicated 22 uppers with the proper 22 barrel. The conversion kits are great for training (where hits are identified but bullseye accuracy isn't needed).

Fot all those recommending the M&P 15-22, the OP stated " I want a .22 on an actual AR platform"...
I have the CCMG Quebec-A... fully dedicated .22lr upper on a standard lower. If you can find one of these, I would recommend it. Unlike the 15-22, the weight is the same as a standard AR-15 in 5.56. I did add a kit that allows me to use M&P 15-22 magazines and adds the bolt hold open feature, so that the bolt stays locked back when a empty magazine is removed.

The best AR/22 Upper is Tactical Solutions, but they are kinda pricey. I've had three of them and they are awesome....one I converted into a dedicated AR/22 SBR. I've also had a Chiappa Upper, but I didn't like it as much. The TacSol Uppers are very lightweight and shoot great. Top is 5.5" Tactical Solutions AR/.22 LR with SSparrow

I like the idea but can you reliably find 22 ammo?

.22lr ammo is almost always back in stock. I just bought 600rds 2 days ago. I'd say it's easy to find again
