Chuy's for Mexican
Pei Wei for Chinese
George's for general chow and fried jalapeños and a good steak
Italian...I don't know where the good stuff is, but there's Olive Garden at the mall
BJ's at the mall for slightly upscale general food.
Cotton Patch for meatloaf
Can't remember the name of the sushi place, but next to Olive Garden. Good sushi
Seafood? They have a Dead Lobster, but that's not much to brag about
Newk's for Greek Salad
I guess Heitmillers (spelling?) for chicken fried
For Steak, I guess Outback or Longhorn Steakhouse
Cheddar's for people that like Cheddar's (I don't)

Burgers: Cups and Health Camp. Cups has been there for about a century. Right across the road behind Burger King on I-35 downtown. Health Camp is on the circle and anything but healthy. Get the Super Health Burger. Oh, and Kitok's on I think 18th street. Lip-locker with oriental fries and sweet tea.

BBQ: Sadly, in my opinion, the best bbq in town is Rudy's on the circle next to Health Camp. There's Jasper's and Demarios across the river on Waco Drive. Family owned joints but brisket and ribs are just so-so, sausage is good at both.

Steaks: Diamondback's, downtown on Franklin Ave next to Ninfa's. Not a fan of Heitmiller's or Longhorn. Outback comes in second to Diamondback's. (If Outback is $$ then Diamondback's is $$$) There's also, right there, Crickett's for sammiches/decent burgers and many adult beverages on draft, Sushi Park for an Oriental mix, and Bangkok Royale for Thai food that's pretty good. This area is right across the street (Franklin) from the Hilton/convention center.

There's also Twin Peaks across from Cabela's, just South of town off I-35. Same shopping center has a Logan's. Back up north near the circle is a Texas Roadhouse on N-35 service road.

Also for burgers, drive south of the circle (from Healthcamp/Rudy's area) through Robinson, down Hwy-77, about 7 miles. Golinda Store has really good burgers. It'll be the second converted gas station on your left.

Slow drifter is pretty much on the money. Only reason I didn't mention Diamondbacks is that the last time I ate there I paid $68 for just the piece of meat. It was good, but it wasn't that darn good. I probably dropped about $300 there for one anniversary meal with the wife. I can spend that kind of money at Pappa's or Vic and Anthony's in Houston and get a meal worth that.

At lunch, try a gut pack at Vitek's by Baylor. He's usually only open til about 1:00. Fritos, beans, onions, jalapeños, brisket and smoked sausage. Darn thing weighs about 10 lbs. well, not 10 lbs but you'll get full.....
I go to Bone Daddy's for the burgers....yeah, that's why.

Jakes Tea Room downtown is good home cooking and lots of desserts.

135 Prime in Hewitt has good steaks but same price range as Diamondbacks.

If you want to take a scenic drive run up to Clifton and eat at Michell's Grill....great food and service at reasonable prices. Call before you go as I am not sure what days they are open.
