I just bought an H&R Super Light .243 youth gun for my son/nephews/nieces. Can anyone recommend a good budget scope for it? I was thinking maybe a scout style scope? Cabela's has them for $100 and I figure the long eye relief would probably be a good thing for the little ones. Any thoughts?

I have a Bushnell Trophy XLT 4-12x40 listed in the classified ads for $75. It's a $250 scope at BPS. Came as part of a package deal with a rifle, but I am wanting to build a long range setup with exposed turrets and a mil reticle. Gun was never fired with the scope on it, and the scope is in like new condition. Would be a great beginner scope like you're looking for.

Bushnell scope for sale - $75

Thanks, I think 4X12 may be a little more than I want for this setup. All shots will be a max of 100yds.

I started my son with a fixed 4 power nikon pro staff. Worked great for him. a friend of mine started his boys with a red dot scope, be same concept I think as a scout type scope. I think when my youngest gets ready I may try the red dot.
