I get so many questions on clip on devises. How they work, and what I actually see while hunting with them so I made this video to show you. Again this is basic stuff for some but for many its all new.

Thanks for the informative video! Good timing too, as I just pre-ordered the new IR patrol. Plan on using it to scan and then clip on when needing to shoot.

Based on your experience would you recommend a clip-on over a dedicated thermal scope?
In your opinion, what is the best clip-on scope for $4000-7000?
What about dedicated thermal for $4000-7000?
Any other pros/cons to clip on vs. dedicated scope?
I'm wanting to get into thermal but I just don't know much about them yet....I really appreciate any feedback.
Thanks!

AWESOME Video-
But has me a bit perplexed-You mentioned the Apollo had its own sights (I inferred it could be used stand alone) Can any Thermal Weapon Sight be used as a clip on?
I am looking at a Pulsar XD50A- a unit with a cross hair. Could this pull double duty??

Thanks! I prefer dedicated scopes less weight with only one optic and usually a bigger lens up front for better detection. Clip ons do every thing well. Dedicated scopes do one thing great. People buy the clip ons to use on multiple rifles, or if they have one rifle they use day and night, or to fill the roll of clip on/monocular-spotter/stand alone scope. My favorite thermal so far has been the Zeus 640 75mm 3x 30hz the MSRP is $700 above your limit but can be found below your limit shopping around. It will soon be replaced by the Zeus pro 100mm as my favorite I'm sure but that is above the stated limit. A Zeus 336 50mm 3x would be fine for most hunting situations and at a substantial price slash. I do not recommend a clip on in less than 640 resolution and they will be at the top of your price range or above.

I am looking at a Pulsar XD50A- a unit with a cross hair. Could this pull double duty?? Yes the Apollo can be used as a stand alone sight, a monocular, and a clip on in front of a day scope. That is the beauty of a clip on is it fills many roles it just does not do them as well as the dedicated unit for each roll. A dedicated monocular works better as a spotter. A dedicated scope works better as a stand alone scope. But a clip on can do both and be put in front of a day scope. I do not think the pulsar xd50a can be used as clip on it is a dedicated scope. Clip on's are collimated so they will not change the point of impact of your day scope this extra manufacturing step is why they usually are more expensive than the dedicated scopes are.

Understand all. I have sourced a one-piece quick detach rail that I will mount to my thermal. I have had some at length conversations with a couple of snipers about mount/dismounting optics with the QD mounts- I feel confident in scanning to locate then quickly mounting this thermal and making 75 yard kill shots on pigs with a 7.62x39AR. I will test theory once in hand and add guides on my rails for repeat placement- but it should work out!

My favorite thermal so far has been the Zeus 640 75mm 3x 30hz the MSRP is $700 above your limit but can be found below your limit shopping around. Got this notice today. If I had another $5500, I would be all over it. Armasight Zeus 640 3-24x75 (30 Hz) Thermal Imaging Weapon Sight, FLIR Tau 2 - 640x512 (17 micron) 30Hz Core, 75mm Lenshttp://www.amazon.com/Armasight-3-24x75-...rmasight+zeus+3I use this one as well.

The only other scope out right now that I would consider are the IR hunter MKII's. The FLIR RS series have an internal battery so once its out its out until you charge it again that's a deal breaker for me. The main thing I do not like about the IR Hunter is the fixed focus, it actually has some type of auto focus after dealing with cameras for most of my life I do not trust auto focus its great when it works and a nightmare when it wont. For the Armasight stuff email Aaron at sales@nightcombatsolutions.com so far he has had the best deals out there plus hes in Arkansas so no taxes for us Texas boys. For the IR hunter Bearclaw on this forum and ultimate night vision.

Ok, TxLawman.....couple more questions for you: What is the difference in these two scopes? Is one just a newer model, it looks like the specs are the same, but one is $1000 cheaper? http://www.amazon.com/Armasight-3-24x75-...rmasight+zeus+3http://www.amazon.com/Armasight-3-24x75-...=armasight+zeusIn your mind what are the most important features, in order? Lens size, Hertz, resolution, ? Thanks again for the education, you have been a big help.

Looks like just the price. They are preying on the impulse buyer. If you are getting a zeus it would be worth you wild to talk with AAron at night combat solutions.
