I always knew Leupold scopes were a decent scope but just thought I share this little story one my clients told me. Between his dad and himself they have hundreds of firearms from antique to modern. He inherited his grandfathers old rifle and with it was a old Leupold scope. The turrets on the scope was froze up so he thought about it and called the manufacture and asked about fixing it. With no issue they told him to send it in with no cost. Well about few weeks later gets a call saying cant be fixed but will send a brand new one to him. After saying yes to the deal he thought about it and would rather just keep the old scope just being the fact it was his grandfathers. Well after calling back they found out they disposed of the old scope. Again the company called back and explain how bad they felt they decided to turn the new scope they are going to send him to a commemorative scope to show some history and info about his grandfather. Even though he is not getting same scope back, he is getting one that will memorialize his late grandfather. Thought was pretty cool story and a thumbs up to leupold for actually caring about the customer.

That is an awesome story. I have never dealt with their customer service, but their products are high quality.

The only time I sent a Leopold in, it was an old one I picked up at a gun show. It had a fine reticle and I called and asked for a reticle change to a duplex type and they said to send it. A few days later they called and said they did not have the parts required and offered me an upgrade scope for about the same price as the reticle change. I thought that was very decent service.

I have heard great stories about Leupold customer service too.

But I don't have any myself, as I have never had one fail me in 40 years or so of using them. smile

I've been using Leupold for years also, and never had a failure. I did send two scopes to them for new reticles, and that worked out fine. When I got them back, I noticed on the paperwork that they had replaced some internal parts. I don't think they charged me extra for that, but my memory might be faulty. Anyway, it was good that the internals were refreshed.

Most of my scopes are Leupold.... never have had an issues ....and for the money they are a great scope.

That said, I am not wild about their binoculars.

I had a rifle knocked over in the cloak room once. Bent the scope. I sent it in for repair and they replaced it with a new one at no cost. It was nice. I was glad I had a back up rifle on that out of state trip though.

Indeed glad to hear others with great experiences I told my client I definitely want a picture of the scope. Once I'll get it I will post it on here

Me neither. Have never understood how their scopes can be of one quality and their binoculars and spotting scopes can be so much poorer quality. I went on a guided hunt for sheep back in 2006 and my assigned guide had a Leupold spotting scope. I shudder to think how much more difficult that hunt would have been if I had not brought my own scope.

I've been looking at getting a scope for my m&p 15. These reviews have convinced me to really examine getting a Leupold scope.

On another note - what's wrong with their binoculars and spotting scopes?

Nothing necessarily wrong with them-they just have chosen to remain in the low/mid level market with their binoculars and spotters. I have not seen any of them that impressed me much, even in their better lines.

What spotting scope would you recommend for a relatively low budget?

It's been so long since I've looked into them deeply I honestly don't know. Others will though.

I inherited a Weatherby Mk V Deluxe from my father with a Burris scope on it. He used this rifle in the late 70s to take a pronghorn in Wyoming. The scope has clouded over with something on the inside of the glass. I'll be replacing it with a Leupold.

That's kind of an open ended question...everyone uses spotters differently.

But I'd say $500-700 gets you to a point where use of full mag with out to much issues in clarity

Had my first experience with Leupold CS in January. Bought a new VX-3 1.75-6x32 with heavy duplex. When the scope arrived the turrets were so stiff I could barely turn them. Sent it to Leupold and while it was there inquired about having a German #4 installed by the custom shop. Was told that since they had to disassemble the scope anyway there would be no charge to change the reticle. Scope came back working right with the new reticle. Doesn't get any better than that.

Don’t roll those bloodshot eyes at me.

Send your scope back to Burris.
