Will be hunting a new property in Kent County this year. If you've hunted Kent County before, I would love to hear you experience there. Deer density, buck sizes, hogs, etc. Theres not a whole lot on the net about Kent county from my searches lately.

I own a place on duck creek in Kent county. I also have family that owns land on the dickens / Kent county corner. Good deer in both areas. Kind of secret of wtx because not many people know much about that area.

Deer - There was a 155" deer taken last season about 2 miles from my place. We have a couple 150" class deer on camera. However, we only have one pic during shooting hours. Tons of does. The land on the county corner, the biggest killed on that place is around 130".

Hogs - There are tons of hogs but they have been sporadic as well. Last year we had large groups hitting the feeders. This year was lone boars coming to feeder in the middle of the night. None stayed around more that a week or so.

Birds - We currently have 3 coveys of quail that I feed year round. About 70-80 birds total. County line place has a couple of coveys there as well. They are starting to come back. The quail in the next few years should be really good. Been a long time coming.
As for dove, we still have over 100 birds hanging around our feeders. Even with the last few cold fronts, they still hang around.

Good luck with the land. Just curious how you found it. Most of the land sales in that area rarely make it to a website. Most are sold by word of mouth. I bought mine that way. Friend of a friend deal. I actually know of a couple more place around there that is coming up for sale soon. Old folks that have died and their kids don't want anything to do with it. We love that area and some good folks. Just dont speed in spur. There are 3 sheriffs running around there now. Kind of funny to watch them make circles every 5 mins or so.

Low deer population most areas. Hit pretty hard with the drought. May take some time to get up to speed on management. Most areas up there its recommended to take a buck per 1000 acres per year.

My buddy got wind of it. We aren't buying it, Its a long-term lease. LO says there last group of hunters were old men and their grandkids and the old men just got tired of taking care of the place. Who knows if thats true or not, but the main attraction for me is that my buddy and I are the "lease managers" and we make the rules. We want to build it up as much as we can and really focus on getting some bigger deer. The lease I'm on now used to have the same type of rules and then some people got on that did not want to feed year round, feed protein, etc and the deer quality has really suffered, so we put out feelers looking for something else and found this place. Its essentially a done deal, but nothing has been signed yet. Its a large piece of land, just under 10k acres, so we should be able to do something with it.

I did some hog removal on a ranch out there few years back... It was LOADED with hogs.. I was there the year after they had a big fire. There wasn't too many deer due to that.. But they did say year before the fire was good white tail and some mule deer... Good luck!

Thanks! I actually enjoy hogs, gives me something to do year round. Not thrilled about having to spend the coin for a feed pen with hog panels, but its all good. Theres hogs on my current lease, but they are pretty spread out and we only see them occasionally.

Its a good time to hunt there. Great rains the last couple years and the area has recovered well from fires and drought. Great 4 year old age class currently. Recommend 1 hunter per 800-1000 acres. Quail have recovered well. Would advise you to hog panel your feeders. Can be some great Mule deer and Whitetail.

When we hunted there back in the 90s there were very few deer in Kent county, but there were some whoppers. We hunted on the salt fork north of Clairemont, Panther canyon ranch. I miss that place. we hunted it for seven years. Biggest deer taken was a 180 class buck.

We've talked to the TPWD biologist. He said expect deer at 1/40 -1/50 acres in that area. We are going to run a hunter about every 700 acres. But the expectation is we are only shooting mature deer. I really don't see more than 2-4 bucks a year being taken on the place. So we will probably be harvest a buck every 2k-4k acres. We are near 2320 on the west side of 208. I hope it can be a standout place in 3-5 years with a group of good hunters.

I hunted in kent for years off salt fork of Brazos. Lots of pigs, few mulies, whitetail good ones in 140's better were in 150's but rare. Badgers everywhere, good cats, and lots of turkey's. We had 6k acres there.

When we hunted there we had 10 guns on 10,000 acres. Now they're running more guns per acre. Marginal habitat now has deer. Hard to drive through there now without seeing stands on the edge of mesquite flats.
