Not for me, prefer a knife that has war marks on it to be handed down to the grandkids. One that has cleaned hundreds of animals with the same blade. Otherwise I could use a box cutter at harbor freight. To each his own.

It is a great knife but I always break the blade when I dress animals. I don't know why, I was breasting a turkey and broke the blade once. Trying to change the blade with bloody hands it dangerous and difficult.
Outdoor edge makes a similar version with strong blades that looks pretty cool, but I am a fixed blade kind of guy...

I considered those, but went with a Gerber 31-002736 Vital Exchangeable Blade Folding Knife instead. Same blades, but I thought the Gerber had better ergonomics. Either way, both are excellent cutters.

I have a ton of knives. I have been using the Havalon almost exclusively to do all of my dressing for the past year or so however. I don't have to sharpen constantly and the dang thing is way sharp.

This replaceable blade system seems to really be catching on.
I have two Havalon and am now using the Orange handled, Hunters Edge, it has a little heavier blade and back bone, I use it for dressing and quartering. My Havalon is best for capping and skinning.
I put my Jimmy Lile Old Number 7 in the safe....

Back in the 1960's Tandy Leather sold a knife similar to the Havalon that used the standard Gilette single edge razor blade. Cost about $.58 cents. We never used new blades, would just wait till one of the regular blades in our razors got dull and used the old blades.

That reminds me of my dad. For years he used the same old hunting knife for dressing deer. Some of his buddies with fancy new knives used to joke with him about it, and he said, "it ain't the knife, it's the man using it." He proceeded to go to his work truck, pull out his Stanley box cutter knife, and dressed out the deer with it. It was pretty funny. Not for me, prefer a knife that has war marks on it to be handed down to the grandkids. One that has cleaned hundreds of animals with the same blade. Otherwise I could use a box cutter at harbor freight. To each his own.

Best knife I have ever used to skin with.... I did 10 in a row at a deer camp and never got dull. Would I try to process/debone with one? No, but to make precision cuts it is on the mark.
If you broke one of these blades then I feel like you were likely not using it for the purpose it was intended to be used for!

I keep a small pair of needle nose pliers in my knife bag for changing out blades... learned my lesson early on.
Not a prying knife, but best knife I've found for peeling skulls.

I have the Havalon and Outdoor Edge. The OE seems as sharp and much stronger. want to try it out if I ever finish this job I am on.

I have 2 Havalon's, one with the short blade and one with filet blade, they work great for cleaning and skinning deer etc. They have recently come out with a heavier blade that doesn't break as easily as the original. I too keep a multi tool or small pair of pliers to change blades. I have tried the Razor's edge I prefer the Havalon. The blade holder on the RE loads up with fat and tissue. Haven't tried Gerber. It's more expensive and uses Havalon blades.
