Loading up some 9mm for competition shooting tonight , post your favorite load.

115 Plated RN Berrys
5.0gn SR 4756
OAL- 1.168 ( I like them long )
CCI small pistol primer
Not sure what load chronos at but it's a soft shooting fairly accurate load that worked good for me yesterday doing a Steel Challenge Comp.

4.8 Bullseye
Winchester brass
Winchester WSP primer
Winchester 115 gr FMJRN
1.125" OAL

With your LONG set up my load info is likely useless.

I have some HS-6 to try next.

Pass the gravy.

Would what make seating it long useless on your load? Case pressure wouldn't be a issue, all of my 9mms have such long chambers that even at 1.170 OAL it's still a good ways away from the lands.

Huh?

I would think there would be a pretty good pressure difference in 1.125" and 1.170" all else being equal. Maybe not. 0.045" sounds like a lot in a small case with faster powders and a fat tail. Then again, I've never tried a 9mm that long with any powder so maybe it's worth a shot so to speak. I would guess you'd need 5.0 grains of Bullseye seated that long to mimic mine but don't take my advice....PLEASE. You asked and I gave my load. I'm not competitive if that matters.

Pass the gravy.

Thanks for your load info by the way. I have never noticed any pressure signs on any of my brass loading that long even with hot loads but I always don't have a chrono so who knows.

Loading longer DECREASES pressure, usually. My load is not white hot but it's not weak. I think this topic has taught me to stay away from load questions unless I know the person asking. Of course there's a chance I made a typo or some other major miscalculation. Kinda wonder why you picked mine to oddly comment on....

I am still fairly new to reloading so I may have my facts wrongs. I went back to make sure I read it right but in the Hornady reloading manual it says typically the longer the load the higher the pressure. If I can figure out how to post a picture from my phone I will show you the page just in case I'm misinterpreting it. I picked yours to comment on becaus you said it would be useless with the long load didn't mean to offend you or know what I said to.

No worries. What I meant is that my powder type and charge amount won't help you much with such a different OAL.

Notice I used the word "usually" above.

The book I have here shows a minimum OAL of 1.1" for that powder in 9mm (for cast lead bullet) so you're loading very long.

I don't have my Hornady and Lyman books with me right now but I do have Richard Lee's Modern Reloading Second Edition in hand and on page 86 he actually states excess length can increase pressure as can having too short an OAL. Check the second paragraph and the second to last.....then look closer at what he's saying. He's saying BRASS that's too long can create excess pressure, both for the reason he states and the fact long brass will cause the bullet to be seated too deep once the proper OAL is achieved. At least that's the way I read it.

Not arguing. If I were you I would try a shorter OAL even if you're worried about jumping from chamber to lands.....just to see what the gun likes. I'd bet you could get similar accuracy with possibly less powder.

Pass the gravy.
