I heard some member of the Obama administration say on the radio today that this is the "most transparent administration in history". I almost drove my truck off the side of the highway.

The way I read it, people are confused. They are still seeking public comment on proposed framework for FUTURE CLASSIFICATION. What they are calling a publication error regards the 2014 Regulation Guide already in print. IE...what started this all off is still unchanged. On Feb. 13, 2015, ATF released for public comment a proposed framework, including legal and technical analysis, to guide its determination on what ammunition is "primarily intended for sporting purposes" for purposes of granting exemptions to the Gun Control Act’s prohibition on Armor Piecing Ammunition. This proposed framework is posted for public comment only; no final decisions have been made as to its adoption.
Media reports have noted that the 2014 ATF Regulation Guide published online does not contain a listing of the exemptions for Armor Piercing Ammunition, and concluding that the absence of this listing indicates these exemptions have been rescinded.

I hope they honestly publish the the public comment. They won't though, because it will be detrimental to their case. Plus, yet again, it will make them look like the idiots that they are.

Guys...this is from the ATF Website.....READ IT..the Feb 13 release was (according to them) a publishing error because they failed to include the 223/556 ammo in the sporting exemption. Whether this is a new twist to "cover their azz" or not who knows..... but the way I read this I do not think the "ban" is still on the table. Here is the website and I pasted in the text so everyone can read it. THAT SAID, WE NEED TO WATCH THIS PRESIDENT TO MAKE SURE THEY DON"T TRY TO SNEAK ANYTHING THROUGH. http://www.atf.gov/sites/default/files/assets/Library/Publications/notice_of_publishing_error.pdfNotice of Publishing Error On Feb. Please be advised that ATF has not rescinded any Armor Piercing Ammunition exemption, and the fact they are not listed in the 2014 online edition of the regulations, was an error, which has no legal impact on the validity of the exemptions. The existing exemptions for armor piercing ammunition, which apply to 5.56 mm (.223) SS 109 and M855 projectiles (identified by a green coating on the projectile tip), and the U.S .30-06 M2AP projectile (identified by a black coating on the projectile tip), remain in effect. The listing of Armor Piercing Ammunition exemptions can be found in the 2005 ATF Regulation Guide on page 166, which is posted here. The 2014 Regulation Guide will be corrected in PDF format to include the listing of Armor Piercing Ammunition exemptions and posted shortly. The e-book/iBook version of the Regulation Guide will be corrected in the near future. ATF apologizes for any confusion caused by this publishing error.

Sorry Tony...but you are wrong on this. You are mixing up two separate issues. On Feb. 13, 2015, ATF released for public comment a proposed framework, including legal and technical analysis, to guide its determination on what ammunition is "primarily intended for sporting purposes" for purposes of granting exemptions to the Gun Control Act’s prohibition on Armor Piecing Ammunition. Tony...the ATF is still allowing public input on their PROPOSED change. That is what started this and that is STILL in effect. If it goes through there would in effect be a ban on the m855/ss109.
The confusion is here:
The other day a media source noticed that the 2014 guideline book made no mention of the exemption for this ammo as it always had. That media source then reported the ATF had already banned it and offered that as proof. ATF then says no that was a publishing error and it was left out. Basically, m855/ss109 status is the same now as it was before. However that statement is soley about the omission and has NOTHING to do with their attempt to reclassify the ammo as stated in the first paragraph.

jbd,
I did a little further research...unfortunately you are 100% correct.
Two issues here:
1. On Feb 13 the ATF did indeed publish a proposal for comment that would ban M855/SS190 ammo claiming it is armor piercing ammo.... that proposal is still active and comment period ends March 16th.
2. Second issue is that they also published the 2014 Guidelines and they omitted the M855/SS190 ammo under the sporting exemption ...that's the publication error.
I apologize to all for the confusion my initial post caused.....

It ain't over. It'll never be over.
Laws where firearms are concerned generally get more restrictive. As far as ammunition is concerned, the market's knee jerk reactions when there are scares, rumors, etc. are getting pretty predictable. Stock up BEFORE the herd panics. Exercise some initiative and prepare, the market WILL freak out again.

I wonder how many loaded up ridiculous amounts of ammo and now stuck with it.... I loaded up with a few rounds. But since I only paid $0.30 a round it was still a great deal no matter what. I'm thinking about going and picking up a few more rounds at that price. Never pay ridiculous prices and you will never regret stocking up.
God has a plan and something special in mind for all of us. Do you know the direction that God wants to send you?
