Does that concrete water trough work? Bet there's some quail around if it does. Looks like neat country.

Yep. Windmill just to the left of the feeder. I'm starting to see quail but not many. Perhaps one covey a day.

Our ranch is just off I-10 South of Iraan.

Not sure if I would want to run them off or not. I think they are a lot nicer looking then whitetail and they sure do taste a lot better!!!!

I think there is a place in our state for both WT and Axis. I love to hunt them both but as stated it's not even close on the dinner table. Axis will out compete a WT for all available food as well as eat things a WT will not touch. I've killed several dozen Axis and I've never killed a doe that wasn't carrying a fetus no matter how hard I've tried to pick out the doe that didn't look like she was carrying. I've also never killed an Axis that wasn't fat and healthy. I can't say that for WT's. If left unchecked Axis will take over and that's just a fact! I'm headed back to Texas in a couple months to do my part in population control! Later Folks, Baker

If I could pattern the darn things, I'd have some trusted friends come out and take as many as they can. But as soon as you'd plan something, the axis will take a sabbatical someplace else for a while.

Recently tried some alfalfa hay. Hoping I'll see some axis on the game camera, but the first week on the game camera showed...whitetails! Lots of them, day and night, tearing into the alfalfa.

I think once you see them regularly, you're at a critical mass sort of situation that there's no coming back from. Like pigs.

If anybody needs an Axis or two removed from their place, I will be happy to volunteer.

I went to NAPA auto parts this morning about 10 . Right after you cross Bandera Creek on the right there must have been at least 75 Axis in one bunch. At the Mayan dude ranch in the mornings when they feed the deer for the dudes to see there are always at least 50. When ever you see a road kill probably at least 75% of the time it is an Axis.

Axis cover up my neck of the woods. I see them on the side of the roads all the time. Just not allowed to harvest them....

Would love to shoot a couple myself. Supposedly they are in a neighboring county of a place I hunt. I've heard that from the locals for 10 years. Haven't seen them around where I hunt though.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.
