I did a search and couldn't come up with an answer so I want to put it out here, maybe someone can answer it for me. Since I'm from NY when we hunt deer we buy a license that has tags attached to it for bear, deer, turkey etc. all for one price. When I think of coming down to Texas to hunt I seem to find a bunch of different types of hunts that we don't have. Like what is a management hunt considered ? Up here if you shoot a 120 class deer you're killing a monster. Down by you guys you have ranches and farms etc that "grow em big" We don't have that. Reason I'm asking is when I look to price a hunt out for my son as a congratulations for graduating college the cost varies from like $750 all the way up to 10,000. All I'm looking for is a nice 120 class deer or there abouts. What should I expect to pay and where is a good starting point to look. Thanks for any and all help guys. BTW, my son is a grown man-25 but I still want to reward him for going to college, then grad school. He's a good kid
thanks

That would be a mgmt. buck sir and likely run you $1500-$2000 +/- for the hunt and kill itself. Being out of state resident, not sure how much a non-resident license costs, $100-$300, would be my guess. So for under $2000, you could probably get what you're looking for I'd think.

Management deer in the 120 class are a available for around $800-$1,000 all over Texas. Beware of places that advertise 120"-200" deer for ~$1,000 or so.
We have tags attached to our licenses too. But we also have MLD ranches that can give you extra tags and allow you to rifle hunt from the first of October till the end of February.

I forgot to add, I'd like to do this hunt in Oct or Nov of this year. I'd be going along as a non hunter because I wanted to film it if possible.

Your big expense will be travel and shipping and trophy care for 140" class deer coming from NY! But these guys on here can hook you up for respectable deer on $2500-3000 range.
Brayden (Lazy L's Southern Comfort) you will be missed! You were more than a pet you were my reason to rise and return for many days! You were my rock! 12/26/03-10/25/13

Wow, prices have dropped over years. What is the cost of non-residency license?

There hunts all over the state for that type of buck. It could be low fence or high fence. Just call and ask a lot of questions. Ask for a lot of references and call everyone they give you. Ask them the same questions you asked the ranch or outfitter. Also there are place you can hunt where you do you own food and lodging or do the food with provided lodging. Like stated above the seasons can start around October depending on the ranch. Good luck.

I paid $315.00 for my non resident hunting license last year and they are good from Sept 1 until the end of August the following year. It does come with multiple tags as far as whitetail, mule deer, turkey and such all the exotics and such. Also you want to remember that you want to go and hut at places with good reviews and do your research, I know you can find hunts from on bucks in the range your talking about from about 800.00 dollars up. You will be looking at an 8 point. You will be looking at the 1500-2500 dollar range to get bucks up to about 140" and more than likely no bigger than 9 points. I would rather spend the extra money if at possible for the bigger deer and most places will let you take a doe or two at no additional cost. 110" 8 point he was an $800.00 deer 142" 9 point, he was a $1500.00+ range deer

All the posters are spot on..... 120" buck is probably $1000 plus or minus ......given the prices I'd up the amount a bit and get a 140" and make it memorable for him (a 140" deer in NY will be a giant). There are a number of outfitters on the THF that offer these types of hunts. Make sure you ask about (1) HF or LF if that is something you care about, (2) whether it's a guaranteed hunt (for example day fee for the guide and a kill fee for the deer versus a set price whether you kill or not, (3) are lodging and meals included ...and ask for some references or if it's someone on this site you may see posts that can tell you alot about the outfitter and his hunts.
Good luck...and I'm sure you can find a great hunt for your son if you do a little research.

http://tpwd.texas.gov/business/licenses/online_sales/Here is the link to Texas Parks and Wildlife web site. You can purchase your hunting license online. As the previous poster noted, the out of state license is $315 and includes the required stamps. As recommended, do plenty of research on here and/or google for hunting ranches and you should be able to find something. Ask for references and use them! If you find something via google, come back here and see if the THF knows of the place. Good luck!
