Red, IMHO. If you are not wanting the light to be seen by the animals. My understanding is that animals without rod and cones in their eyes have a very hard time picking up that wavelength.
Green, if you are concerned about you being able to see the game. I read an article, i believe by Laser Genetics , a while back that claims it is the color the human eye focuses on best. ( I have an ND3 that is green) green is still hard for them to see.
Take it at face value, I don't claim to be an expert.
I can tell you this, I have have killed quite a few pigs with both. Coyotes I cannot give any advice on.

I've heard this question about a million times, their is no straight answer for it all depends on many factors. For example location where your hunting, hunting pressure, have the animals their ever seen light before, and many others. I've killed with all colors green, red, blue and white. Here's what i hunt with each color: Green- hogs, coins, skunk, rabbit Red- more for animals that are shy to light- coyote, fox, bobcat Blue- anything White- I rarely use it to hunt, but I've killed a lot of coons with it and 4 hogs

they can see light
they can't see if it's green or red , being color blind they see black and white .... shades of grey
a green laser shining at them will be seen as a grey light source,,, like star lights same with red
a good analogy is look through a night vision scope - have some one shine green or red light towards you.... You will see light source, and that is what they see

Ice storm numbed my brain, thought for a moment you wanted to paint them and I was trying to decide whether neon or florescent would look best.

I have a red light and pigs can see when I turn it on. Sometimes it will spook them and there are times they react, but don't run.

I have all three. I hate the blue for me just because I can't see anything with it period at night. I used my and my sons dogs as guniea pigs. They all like to chase lasers. All the dogs can see the red real well but only my dog can see the green. Also I can see the green the best in the woods Don't know if that means anything at all but I hunt with green lights. So far so good.

I use a blue light on hogs with no issues and it's mounted on my bow. Shot a many hogs with it. Never used it for coyotes. Besides, being its my bow light, it only shines out good for about 20 to 25 yds.

I've read on a few sites that you don't want to turn on the light right away facing them. Turn on the light, facing up and slowly lower it to them. This to make them comfortable with the shade of white they'd see and confusing them as being the moon's light and not something that will be a danger.
But I am not an expert either so that's my two pennies.

I prefer a very dim red light. No one likes a bright light in their eyes, regardless of color.

Of course, there's no substitute for a good full moon on a clear night.

The brighter the light the faster they spook. They can see all of the colors I have found just sometimes they don't spook.
