x2 on the blind Wayne referenced. It was nothing more than a typical concrete pit blind but the roof mechanism was impressive. One of those things you see and think "why didn't I think of that".
The roof was an enlarged section of garage door installed in garage door track. The whole shebang sat on a couple railroad ties resting on the sides of the concrete bunker when closed with the rear rails bolted to some angle iron set vertically in the ground, the kind you'd use to hang garage door track from a ceiling. You could pretty much install that contraption on top of any in-ground structure cheaply and easily with little to no maintenance.
Give Wayne a couple months to chew on it, I'm sure he'll engineer a much improved version that can withstand a bomb blast.

That pit we hunted would be very easy and cheap to build yourself (If the water table would allow it). If were setting one up on my own land and not needing to dig up a pit to move it, I would do the concretet wall pit. Dig a hole, drop your form in, secure it and pour. The geese were so close to us Hogman said he was scoping out their boot holes . Something wrong with that hogman guy. They could not see us at all. The roll top was perfect.

Any structure you build in the ground that doesn't have a penetration or weep hole for water to enter can (and will) pop out of the hole it sits in if it's weight is lighter than that of the volume of water it displaces when the earth it's sitting in becomes saturated with water. http://www.walb.com/story/21348679/homeowner-shocked-when-pool-pops-out-of-ground

Rolling top is nice.
I was checking for excessive salt. If waterfowl has too much salt in their system they get cranky, and salt leaks out when they fly. Google it.

a small gas ran pump is easy to keep and toat around.. think you would save a lot of money going in that direction...
best case scenario is if the level is shot right when you build the stand it will never go under water... but chit happens

We sink the kids beside the blind while we are hunting.
As for pumps-my blinds founder water at least once a year. I have a couple large BFE pumps and it takes about 35 minutes to pump it out.
I do recimmend the sump box in the bottom. You get a lot of water in a blind with 4-5 guys and a dog getting in and our. The box makes it quick and easy to dip a 32 oz gator aid bottle in. It's too much extra weight to take a battery. Both of mine are 200 yards from shore in knee deep water.

I didn't realize the blind was 200 yards out in knee deep water. I bet them ducks have a great big old "Uh Oh" on their faces when the doors fly open. That is as nice a set up as I have ever seen.

Just bought a new concealed comfort pit. They are defiantly worth a look. We did a lot of research and that is what we went with.

One other note on the Concealed comfort pits they have a raised wooden floor. So until the water gets around 5" deep your feet are still dry. Even if you pump them you still have that last little bit of water left that a bilge pump can't get out.

What does a 20 foot pit cost? My sister and bro in law own a fab shop in Eagle lake. They build trailers for liquid nitrogen transport, like the big bottle trailers for tractor tr As ilers. Building these blinds would be a walk in the park for them. This is one of the trailers they built. So you can see what I mean, a pit blind would take them a day. http://www.hotfrog.com/Companies/LONE-STAR-CRYOGENICS_26828658

Think ours will actually be bigger as we went with the 20fters with a dog box on each end. For the way we have ours set up, I think they will be around $3K+/- plus shipping. I reached out to a handful of fabrication shops through customers of ours to see if anyone wanted to bid on it and they all said they couldn't touch that price.

As Brazos said, Quirks Welding blinds are the best. Lightweight yet solid as a rock once you get them set. We hunt out of the 2 sided pit blinds and have them set up so that we can hunt the winds properly. One of the most important pieces of pit blind success is proper placement. Make sure you get it right cause they are difficult to move once you install them.

You need to call me, I left my number on your voice mail. I can beat that price and the shipping is from Eagle Lake, Texas not Arkansas. My brother in law and I had a sit down the other day. There is nothing in that photograph that his shop can't build with their eyes closed. They build those nitrogen transport trailers from the ground up, these pit blinds are a walk in the park. So far as shipping, you can pick it up from your house in an hour and not have any shipping costs.

I'd make absolutely certain any steel pit blind I bought was properly epoxy painted inside and out.
