So Ive ruined my Savage 64 .22. I JB welded the scope to the grooves to hold the scope still cause it kept sliding forward. Now, a few months later, I've taken it off and sanded as much away as I can but it took a lot of bluing with it. The gun jams up anyways and has been beat to death. Im not too worried about it getting ruined considering its a cheap gun in the first place. So now the idea of a new 22 keeps crossing my mind. I can't decide what I would get if I were to get one though. I don't know if I want a semi auto, bolt, or lever action. I have a Henry lever 22 mag and its an awesome gun (at least after it came back from getting fixed on warranty work). Is semi auto really all that necessary for small game hunting? I would imagine a bolt or lever 22 can take care of squirrels and rabbits just as well as a semi. What would you guys buy if y'all were getting a new 22?

I've been wanting the CZ 455 lately. Love that set up with the Kevlar stock

It depends on how much you're planning to spend.

If I were to buy one I would get a 10/22. The Hbar models are nice but too heavy to carry too far for squirrels and rabbits.

If I was going to spend over five hundred dollars on a rimfire, I'd look for a Winchester 52 on Gunbroker. There are a lot of them that have been ruined for collector value but are still awesome shooters. The only problem is finding a seller who knows AND can admit that his gun is a shooter only.

Love my 455, though it's a .17 HMR. VERY accurate and consistent.

Doesn't CZ make one with three barrels, 17, 22 LR and 22 WMR? That would be really hard to pass up.

CZ 3 in 1

Wouldn't trade my CZ 452 trainer for love or money, great .22 and super accurate.

I have been looking at the Ruger American rimfires recently thought. I would love one in .17 HMR. The barrel is already threaded and the rotary mag is great.

If I were to buy a brand new .22 today the CZ 3 in 1 would get a hard look from me. Although, now that I have a .22 suppressor on the way I would want to get all 3 barrels threaded which would cost an additional 150-200 dollars for the 3 barrels.

My Ruger 10/22 would be one of the last guns I would give up. Reliable, accurate, affordable. Pretty hard to beat.

For a Tree Rat getter I'd be looking for a old Marlin bolt gun in a tube fed wood stocked LR or Mag, pre Remington gun. An Older Than I Am buddy has a Model 81 TS, blue/syn Lr with a 20? year old Swift 2-7x40 Premier Grade that will stack it's preferred ammo in one hole out to close to 100 yards. I've been trying to sell him on the idea of which ever one of passes 1st, the other one gets their 22 since he's been bugging me about my Marlin lever gun for the last 10-15 years.

Those old Micro Groove guns WILL shoot, and good condition guns can still be bought on GB for 1/2 the CZ's. Only remmy I'd look for would be a Model 541 I think is what it's called. Anything from Savage Anschutz would also be high on my list.

My Ltd production Marlin 39 Model D carbine - with an A Model pistol grip uncheckered stock - shoots waaay better than I can.

We're more than happy with our S&W M&P 15-22's

10/22 would be my choice if I wanted a high-ish dollar custom project target rifle, or maybe even a beater rifle

The best 22 you can get is an "automatic". It automatically goes out and cranks up your truck early in the morning, and runs around town looking for its own ammunition. It automatically responds between midnight and 5am to MidwayUSA notifications and places an order to supply itself.

Yep, an automatic fer sure. scratch

For a mid priced .22, I would look for a CZ , they seem to be a very good and accurate .22 for the money

In my opinion, if you are taking head shots at squirrels and such, a GREAT trigger really could make you kill more.

When you get into the upper grade rimfires, you can get the benefit of this. RE; CZ, Savage Accutrigger, drop in for a 10/22
