Have always had male dogs. Am getting a British lab and torn between male vs female. Going to spay or neuter either way. Of course have done research but still torn. Hunting about 6-12 times a year, rest as a house dog. Anyone with experience willing to opine? Think I'm going with Wildrose in case you may have any thoughts in that regard as well. Thanks in advance.

Either sex is fine and strictly a personal preference. Please do not spay or neuter before 18 months so the growth plates can close. Hormones play a big part in that.

I've trained a few wild rose dogs. Brand recognition is just that.

I like them both for different reasons.
JMO
Males seem to stay in that clown puppy stage longer than females.
Males work just as hard as a female, but cut up more once the work is done
Females mature faster, but both windup in the same place on training.
You can rub a females belly, but I don't see anyone rubbing their males belly.
While females will love you, males fall in love with you.

I would rather find the right litter, and have the breeder pick the pup that most likely fits what I want in a dog. Male or female wouldn't be a high priority, and would only come into play if I needed to chose between two pups that the breeder felt were equal.

I've always wondered how someone goes about choosing between pups when their only days old. I would rather wait until their personalities start to show.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.
