Alright, here to get schooled.

Differences between 6.8 SPC vs 6.8 SPC II. Just looking for diverse POVs. I might have committed myself to two 6.8 SPC uppers thinking they were 6.8 SPC II....

Can I still hunt with them?
Ammo Availability?
Worth building up?

Yes, Im registering on 6.8 forums.

Please, just the facts. bang

The chambers are very "similar" with the SPC II having extra lead that generates far less pressure than the SAAMI chamber. Because of this the spec II chamber has a lower pressure at the same velocity, or increased velocity at the same pressure. Lower pressures can cause less wear on the parts or better velocities will have a positive effect on performance. No barrel manufacture should be currently chambering SAAMI!!!!!

You can absolutely still hunt with them and ammo availability is not an issue. As long as you don't buy "tactical loads" or anything similar to that you will not have pressure issues. The vast majority of factory 6.8 ammo is safe for you to shoot, and any ammo that is loaded a to a higher pressure will be clearly marked as such.

I will say that the Spec II chamber does make a difference, especially if you are a reloaded. I can handload ammo that is significantly hotter than factory and shoot it through my rifles without pressure signs. However, if you will only be shooting factory ammo, you will be totally fine with what you have IMO.

Remington really did the 6.8 SPC cartridge a disservice when they introduced it with the original chamber and using LRP instead of small. The fact that there are multiple chambers for the cartridge seems to scare many people away, even though .223/5.56 has several chamber variatons as well and nobody seems to care.

the 6.8 is a great little cartridge, and I think you will be very happy.

Everything you want to know is on the 68 forum. Great place for that caliber.

You can hunt with both but I'd rather have the SPC II.

For factory ammo, all I see are the 110 vmax, 115 fusion & the remington ammo in stores. Mine likes the 120 SST so I bought some online for the brass. SSA was bought out by Nosler recently so they're gone.

Are there any reputable companies still making 6.8 SPC chambered barrels? I figured they would have all switched to SPC II chambers a couple of years ago.

It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.
