<--- soon... 300 purpose close quarters and swapping out standard ar parts. 6.8 purpose step up from 5.56 at longer distance. What is your intent and what distance? I use my 300 for night hunts under 100 yards unsuppressed.

No agenda
I only hear about quiet loads, more interested in full power vs full power. I know the 300 is quiet suppressed

Supersonic is supersonic, which means sonic crack of the bullet. What the shooter hears in 6.8 SPC and 300 Black Out may be equal when ran through the same suppressor. On my range when shoot long distance suppressed, you can hear the bullet flying until it gets to the target. Peeeeeeeeeewwwwwwww......ping

I went 300. Only cause dsg did a deal on seekins upper for Black Friday. Haven't really shot it. Just bought some of chads supersonic bullets
My issue with subsonic is I don't understand why everyone wants them. For 300 it's effectively a 45 acp bullet. A 220 smk going 1000 fps vs a 230 round nose going 950 fps. They are fun for the range but haven't seen a purpose beyond that
Although the concept of a 6.8 does really intrigue me

Haha yea I polished that thing for hours.

6.8 is going to be a better supersonic round as that was the purpose of design. 300 was designed to push a heavy bullet subsonic out of a short barrel to be better is roles where the MP5SD was previously used

If I'm going for subsonic, suppressed performance, I'd go for a 9mm or 45 carbine. The practice ammo's a heck of a lot cheaper than 300 blk.
If I'm going for supersonic performance, 6.8 all the way.
300 blackout has filled a niche that doesn't really exist in my mind.

I have both in AR platforms. If you are going to use it for supersonic the 6.8 all day. If suppressed the 300 Blackout wins. I use Barnes TTSX 95 grains in 6.8 and can almost get to 3000 FPS, maybe 2900 to 2950. You can also shoot 115-120's. I have shot axis, fallow, sika, whitetail and too many hogs to count with the 6.8. I use the 300 for night vision hunts because you can get closer at night and plus suppressed you can shoot a 200+ grain bullet. But for a day hunt I have no problem letting my daughters shoot the 6.8 for anything, no recoil at all.

Hog killin 100 yards and in? Yes, night vision. 95% of my shots have been 60 yards or less. The farthest I've taken is a 110 yard shot on a boar that was in a huge 1000+ yard wheat field. No way to get closer without sloshing through the mud and having him hear all the muck.

Guys....he's asking about SBR's, not full length barrels. How many of y'all are running 6.8 SBR's?
I want to know as well because I only run suppressed SBR's now and am curious as to which will perform better. I already have a 300 BO but wondering if a 6.8 SBR with a 10.5-12" barrel would be better? 250 yards and closer only....

Get both. Hypersonic the 300BO has good ballistics with the 110gr out to 300 yards. The greatness is the versatility, it is not perfect, but for quiet CQB and hunting versatility with a mag change, hard to beat. If you are going to run subs, better be a reloader.

It brings you back to what we've been talking about the entire time. Since they both perform well from short barrels, it's a choice of whether you want to run supersonic or subsonic. Closer than 100, you can probably go with the 300blk. Any farther out, and I don't know if I'd feel comfortable with the ballistics, specifically the drop. I'd just go 6.8 at that point.
I'm just waiting for my stamp to come back, then I'll be running a 6.8 SBR.
One thing to note, though, is that 300blk is supposed to perform well from barrels as short at 8", while 6.8 is sort of optimized for around 12" barrels. But 5.56 works well for 16" barrels, and that doesn't stop people from going shorter. You'll have a hard time finding 6.8 barrels shorter than 12" if that's what you're looking for.

I'm only talking about supersonic....that's what this whole thread is supposed to be about before everyone got side tracked. Obviously subsonic is no contest here. So a 6.8 in a 11.5" barrel is substantially better for hunting under 250 yards than a 8.5" 300 BO? Just trying to clarify....
