Can someone help identify and value this rifle. It belongs to a buddy who got it in a trade and I is wanting to sell or trade it but not sure of value and such. Was told it is one of only 250 made. It has a carbon fiber barrel that is stamped browning arms on one side and Christensen arms on the other. It is chambered in 300 win mag and he was told msrp was around $1800-$2000 in the 1999-2000 time frame. Please help us out and thanks!!!!!

The only way to find out the approx value is to go online and try to buy one just like it. I call that my Reverse Process. I've been doing that for years when it comes to cars, used ATV's, boats, power tools, etc. The youngest daughter had a Toyota Celica she wanted so trade in. The used car guy at Toyota gave her a terrible offer, calling the car practically worthless. I had her do the Reverse Process and try to buy one similar. Per the same Toyota place, when she faked an attempt to buy one, they told her the price was BIG, saying that the car was classic and perfect and worth every penny. She was so pis___ off, she couldn't talk for two days. Lesson learned. Now she's an oil trader and worth a couple million, and will have her old dad in the very best of diapers some day.

You'll at least get the asking price, unless NOBODY has one. Then the price is whatever somebody will pay, so put the price up high. It's a great rifle and probably super light. Folks pay big numbers for rifles like that. Don't sell that one cheap. You'll kick yourself and we'll make fun of you.

Normally, I agree with this 100%.

But, carbon-fiber barreled rifles were basically a fad that has passed. Their advantages over steel barrels are slight, and their cost was much higher. I suspect you will have a difficult time selling it for what it cost 15 years ago.

Some may disagree with this. Only thing to do is see what the market says.

After a lifetime of buying and selling, I know that for everything that can be sold (including 50 pounds of elephant crap) somebody somewhere wants it. Sounds crazy but it's true. A good trader is the fellow that finds that one person that can't live without it. You don't need 200 buyers. You just need one. I sold a Triumph TR-6 years ago. It was in good shape and I shined it up and put it in the driveway. People stopped to look and most of them didn't look twice. But a few folks did. Took me a while, but there was a guy that would only look at it when nobody was around. He came back again and again. I'd see him out the kitchen window. He was hooked and I knew it. Took me a while to 'land' him, but land him I did. He paid $2000 more than I had paid for it.

They retailed new for msrp of $1600.00 if I remember right. I've seen a couple here n there in shows and auctions from $11-1500.00 I think they made 500 in 22-250 and the same number in 300WM. "Again this is from memory" I'd say a short Internet search would be best. Good luck with it, it's a pretty cool and unique rifle.

Can't speak about this particular rifle, but just because something is rare doesn't always means it demands a premium. Hopefully for your sake, this time it does.

working on a price here is some info:

New for 2000, Browning has partnered with Christensen Arms to offer carbon fiber barrels on the A-Bolt. This patented technology utilizes a continuously fiber-wound band, sealed with epoxy. This material is used in prosthetics, bicycle frames, golf clubs, fishing rods, reinforcing concrete joints and foundations, and now in barrels for Browning rifles.
These strong fibers surround a stainless steel inner sleeve on the new A-Bolt Carbon Fiber Stainless Stalker. It is stronger than steel, 80% lighter and dissipates heat ten times faster than conventional barrels. Your quick follow-up shots won't be affected by heat or vibration. It gives you the stiffness and accuracy of a heavy barrel without the added weight. There is less barrel whip and better dimensional stability for a more repeatable point of impact.

Two specifications will be available in the Carbon Fiber A-Bolt this year: The A-Bolt Carbon Stainless Stalker in 22-250, which will fast become the ultimate long-range varmint rifle, and the 300 Win. Mag., a hard-hitting, long-range nail driver.

That is the kind of rifle you put up on Gunbroker, IMO. You need to reach a wide audience with it. THF is a pretty good sized forum and lots of stuff moves in the Classifieds, but that's the sort of thing that I believe very few would want to pay a high price on.

Thanks for all the input guys. In talking with him and sharing this info I'm thinking he is leaning toward keeping it but not 100% sure. He has a handload worked up that I've seen this one shoot and if you do your part it's a .50 shooter or under all day long. Pretty sure the only trades he will consider is a remington sendero or long range in 7 rem mag. Let me know if you have any offers and I will pass them along. Thanks again
