What's up THF.. What's the "real" deal with hunting the land that have "DU Wetlands Projects" signs posted up along the fence lines? They seem to say "Managed by the landowner" as well, but I'm not sure what that specifies.
What's the deal with hunting those properties? It is strictly up to the landowner, or has DU and the landowner already signed a lease off for each season?

Most likely not legal, contact someone who knows the land you're talking about. No one here can likely help. Call your gw. But I'd bet 99.7% it's a private land grant so no you'd be trespassing

100% not legal. The DU Wetlands projects are built using some of the landowners money as well. DU does not own the land. In return for helping with the majority of the costs the landowner has to agree to keep water on the units during a certain time period of the year.

being an owner/manager of 5 of these types of units, I almost began laughing when reading this post. You asked as if you were expecting someone to say it was open to the public. But to simply answer the question....it's up to the landowner

as long as you pay your membership each year and put the sticker on your truck you're good to go, bigger stickers are given precedent when it fills up

Anyone else notice the increasing dissatisfaction with DU? I'm curious what's the cause.

I have no idea exactly how it all works, I ended up paying exactly half. Which to me seemed like a fair compromise for both sides.

It has become a social status for some to be say they are members of DU or on a DU committee.

My question was answered in 302023 different ways, and they were all interesting.
I guess it really is up to the landowner...if you own 5 and say so yourself. I'll have to do more asking then next year.

I know four people that are on chapter committes that couldn't tell you the difference between a redhead and can. They don't duck hunt in any shape or form or fashion but they are rocking along at banquets. You would be amazed how many aren't serious duck hunter. By serious I mean at least one time a year excluding tank jumping.

Overall, DU has been a boon to ALL wildlife. I give every year and have the sticker on my truck. I haven't killed a duck in probably 30 years.
