I got a Remington CDL SF .257 Werherby a while back. I took it to the range to sight it in and used the 80 grain TTSX. I had an issue with the extractor and had to send it back. Customer service was great and I got the rifle back but have not had a chance to fire it again. I only put a few rounds down it and I already noticed some copper buildup. I have about 5-6 boxes of this ammo and it ain't cheap!
I'm thinking of bore coating or selling off the ammo and looking for something that will foul less.
Any thoughts? I know some if you guys are big fans of the .257 and the TTSX but how do you deal with the copper fouling or is it even an issue?
Thoughts on bore coat?

I know that many do not believe in barrel breakin, in cases like this it might be a good idea.
Clean the copper out then follow one of the breakin processes of shoot one bullet, clean, shoot another and clean, repeat 5 times, then clean every 2 rounds for 5 cycles of shoot 2 then clean, after that shoot 5 and clean. Lot of work but I have seen it help on heavy foulers. Would do the breakin with gilding metal jacketed bullets, the WBY softpoints are the least expensive factory loads for the 257 WBY and would work for this. If you want to get aggressive and reload get some of David Tubbs lapping bullets and lap the barrel that way.
Barnes bullets are heavy foulers since they are pure copper which is soft and when pushed at 257 WBY velocities copper fouling is part of life. How smooth your barrel is makes a difference in how much copper gets deposited.

Unless your accuracy is bad I wouldn't worry about fouling.

I don't clean mine until it stops shooting MOA.
I hunt with the 80ttsx and plink with 115vld. POI is almost identical at 100 yards.
You also have a brand new factory barrel and it's probably alittle rough. You could run some spritzers through it to break it in. Keep your brass!!!

You are pushing an 80 grain solid copper bullet at ~3600+ fps. I guarantee you will have copper fouling, no matter what barrel you have. I see copper fouling becoming an issue after about 3000 to 3100 fps with the Barnes TSX bullets. How much depends on your barrel bullet speed. Faster speed, more copper fouling. I have seen rifles begin to lose accuracy after about 15 rounds with custom rifles. So, yes, yours will need cleaning often. It would help to know your rifle and shoot it enough to know when that accuracy fall off is, and this will tell you when to clean it. My guess is it would also be in the 20 rounds or so. The bullet is great for hunting, but not so great for copper fouling. Keep shooting it and listen to what your rifle tells you.

Unless your accuracy is bad I wouldn't worry about fouling. ^^ This I have loaded 80 gr TTSX, 85 gr TSX, and the 90 gr Nosler E Tip bullets for my .243 Win. The Nosler E-tip's were just awful, I could not develop a MOA load with 50 bullets and the copper fouling was crazy. The 85 gr TSX were the most accurate for me with the 80 gr TTSX being a close second. The 80 gr TTSX I had to clean out the copper every 30 rounds because my accuracy would drop off but the 85 gr TSX seemed to keep up until 40-50 rounds through. I changed bullets to the 95 gr Berger Classic hunter because I got sick of cleaning my gun so often, also they are less than half the cost of copper bullets.

I have an Accumark.257 Wby Mag, it usually takes around 50 or so shots before accuracy starts falling off, I run a brush twice then patches until they come out clean and it's good to go again. I just recently started reloading for it using the 100 gr Nosler BT and TTSX I haven't had a chance to go to the range yet though

Me thinks the inside of said factory Remington barrel is rougher than a cob inside, thus picking up all the hot copper you can scoot down it.
Might try "final Finish" bullets by David Tubb if you reload.
Keep cleaning the copper out until you save up enough money to replace the barrel with a custom
Nothing wrong with the .257 Weatherby, awesome caliber
just my .02 which are usually worth .01

Haven't tried it. How does the gun shoot, accuracy wise? If you are happy with accuracy, just use one of the very strong Copper Cleaners. Or try Wipe Out bore foam and let it sit in your barrel over night. DON'T let the strong copper cleaners sit overnight !!! follow their directions.
Just a thought.
With that caliber in a strictly hunting rifle, you probably won't shoot more than 40 rounds a year.
Yes, there are many other great factory loaded bullets available, The Barnes have always left copper in factory barrels
Try these factories, in stock at Midway USA 115gr Nosler Ballistic tip would be a great one or the Accubond, Hornady interlock all should shoot great in your gun.
If you are going to shoot allot, you should start to reload. $60.00 -85.00 a box of 20 !!!
If not, save your brass, I will buy it from you...

I have about 5 boxes of the TTSX. I haven't even sighted the gun in after getting it back from Remington.
My plan was to get it all the copper out, bore coat then sight it in before I sent a bunch of those copper bullets down it again.
