I'm not a fan of science diet (disclaimer * no first Hand experience). I've looked into it and it's ingredients and can't figure out what justifies its cost or sets it apart. I believe vet offices get a kickback too.

Just another option for you to consider is Dr Tims brand. His Kinesis line is an all age food, and even picky dogs gobble it up. You can get it online with free shipping to your door at chewy.com. The older labs get 3 cups a day. The young, active dog gets 3 cups of Pursuit line. That's cheaper and better than giving them more of a different brand. (Won't be needing to feed 5 cups and alpo)

What I like about it is it has a higher calorie content, and you save money because you feed less. Not a lot of fillers either with most of their protein from animal source. There are lots of good foods out there. Do research on what dogs need, shouldn't have, and watch how your dog responds (coat, energy, stools, etc) and go from there. I used to not think quality dog food was needed because "my dogs are fine." I switched when they got older and saw tremendous difference.
