I don't do all that, I just put some on the BCG and go shoot.. It heats up all by itself and works great. My BCGS are all NP-3 coated and so they are pretty slick to begin with.

I just lube the 4 high points on the BCG and around the bolt and it's gtg. You can heat the metal first and it will go into the pores.
It is far more important to be able to hit the target than it is to haggle over who makes a weapon or who pulls a trigger.

I really like the stuff. I haven't noticed a huge benefit to using it on my AR, but it's kept my duck gun rust free and I can get pretty lax on the cleaning of that thing. I also love it for my carry pistols. Seems to "soak in" and not attact as much dust/dirt/lint as when you oil them.
I have nothing at all bad to say about the stuff. Plus, it smells like BenGay.

Smells like toothpaste to me.

I'm with Gumbeaux. I have used it the last two years on my duck gun and it is amazing!! After four different trips to the salt water honey hole, my gun is still rust free. Whereas, my brother's gun is a solid rust bucket..... If going on a trip to salty water, I would highly recommend it!

As to the 'why" it is the latest and supposedly "greatest" in a long line of fads.
Run your AR wet with good quality lube and it'll run if it's high quality and to spec. If it's low quality and out of spec, no fancy lube will make it run.
I've seen the fads run from Break Free to Vagisil to white lithium to grease to 30 weight to militec to whatever. Most of these lubes are designed to part you from your money. YMMV.
God is so good to me.
