wife is 5 foot nothing approx. 130lb hunts with a bolt/243 - 20ga semi - s&w model 37 (air weight) carry gun & is good with all of them. Have to cut the stock on anything she shoots which makes it useless to anyone else(like me). This will be her first ar platform

Anyway ran across the M&P15 Sport selling for $579 @ grabagun(Coppell TX). Seems like a nice basic ar15 w/ forever warranty from S&W came w Magpul 30 round magazine/ bought a extra mag for $9.99 & had 2 - 20round @ home.
I ordered in a 1000 rd box of wolf gold line 55gr FMJBT $314.00 .

Has anyone played / owned one of these ? It's not a war/hunting weapon just a plinker / range / kick around the lease gun. Nice & lite wish my AR10 was that small & lite

Buddy at work has one. It's a really nice rifle for the price. It's not a Larue or Daniel Defense or even a $1000 Rock River, but it shoots accurately and doesn't jam. Significantly better than the $600 ARs from just 5 years ago.

I see all of the new (and old) ARs run just fine. You should be good to go.

Wife has one topped with a Nikon P-223 4-12x40 scope, had to cut the front sight post down but that was it. She loves it. It's a 1 inch gun @ 100 with good match ammo, IF you do your part. For the $550 I psid I'm very happy with it.

This was right after paint, it's since had a new scope and the front sight cut

My wife glares at me when I suggest pink furniture for her AR. I know how she is but I like to push her buttons now and then. It will continue that way until she just quits getting agitated when I show her pink gun stuff...after all, it won't be fun anymore.

I picked one up under similar circumstances. Bought it online for $549. First thing I did was put a CMC trigger in it that was on sale at Midway. I since have put an adjustable gas block on it. It shoots surprisingly well for such a good buy. I was very pleased with the accuracy. You'll be happy with it. I am probably going to install a new handguard. Something economical but functional. I've got a nice AR with about $800 in it so far.

Big Pig showed my wife the picture of your "PPPINK" paint job that you did on your wife's ar & and said we need to do that to her weapon. It was amazing the invective that spewed forth " basically no way in hell will I show up @ the lease with a gun painted like that" LOL

I also noticed that you said you cut down the front sight post to mount a Nikon p223 is there anyway to just remove it and make it a true flattop? I have a 1 piece Nikon m308 base that was left over from my AR-10 that I would like to put on her gun/ she may even get the m308 scope 4x16x42 if I pull it off my ar10 for a night vision system(still have not committed to this yet) also have a Bushnell elite 4200 3x9x40 that I could mount on there.

I have two of the same M&P15 Sport's and I really like them.

Using a tall one-piece Millett mount to give me clearance for the charging handle with gloves on, I cannot see the front post in the 3-9x40 scope. I left the factory Magpul rear flip up sight in place so I can use open sights if needed. The one that lives in my truck is a bit over two years old and has never even burped once, with around 1200 rounds down the tube. Yes, I am a lousy marksman, but that carbine can waaay out shoot me.

Precision rifle? LOL, no. But at $555. plus a cheap Bushnell scope - they more than serve my needs as all purpose rifles.

This is at 150 yards, on bench with sandbags.

A Democracy is when two wolves and a lamb vote on the dinner menu. That is why this country was specifically not designed as a Democracy. We are a Constitutional Republic.

Remove it? Sure, but you better have something to replace it with. The M308 is a nice setup, I'm pretty happy with the P223 stuff so far. This gun does great with 69gr match ammo, far better then I expected. I'll be grabbing one of these for myself soon. Only change will be a 15 inch free float tube and new rest stock.

The front A2 sight on the M&P15 is also the gas block. As stated earlier, I installed an adjustable gas block on mine as my kids shoot it. It is a pain in the butt to get off. The pins are very tight and are tapered so you need to be sure to drive them out the correct direction. They are really hammered in there. They come out the opposite direction from other makes. S&W is just different, not sure why. Look on Youtube for a video and you'll see how to go about it. I'd have a spare gas tube handy in case yours gets bent in the process. It's not that bad but allow yourself some time, have a good punch set and get after it.
