Not really how I wanted to kill my 1st axis buck and do not claim it was hunted. Landowner called me today saying they had a axis in their backyard injured it wouldn't run or jump. It was dragging one back leg and other one swollen. So I drive out there on my lunch break to see what was going on. Well I found him standing next to the fence and was able to get a clear shot. I shot him and he dropped. Poor guy had a rough day. Looks like he got his hind legs caught in a fence. Dislocated his right rear leg and left one was pretty mangled. To show respect for the animal I am having him euro mounted and hide tanned. He will go up in my office

So I decided to go check the trap while I was out there and found this little dude beating up on my trap. While I stood there trying to put a .22 to his head he flipped the trap on his side and the door swung open but I was quicker than he was and uprighted the trap before he made his escape. He is pretty close to 200lbs. Maybe a little over. I did not weigh him.

Kinda of easy when the property is 5 mins from the house, 25 mins from work. LOL
I have been chasing free range axis bucks for 2 years with my bow with no success. I have taken plenty of does. I really hated to take a buck like this. I had passed on this dude a few times with my rifle only to end his life because he was injured. Kinda sucks. I will get back to chasing the big boy I have on camera.

At least you removed a hog from the property. Sure would have been hard to head back to work. Hope you get a big one with your bow.
