I'm located in Franklin County in NE Texas and was wanting opinions on whether or not setting up my game call and going coyote hunting with a small amount of snow/sleet on the ground is a good idea or bad.

I don't know, but I'm going. I just took a propane torch to the metal ladder on my tall blind. Took a while to melt the thick ice. My hands are killing me. It's COLD out there. Gotta think the coyotes are hungry and will be searching for something to eat.

All day I've been looking forward to the hunt this afternoon, then I find all the ice. It's gone now, as is $4 worth of propane.

I wonder if a 55 gr Nosler BT will penetrate a coat of ice on a coyote. Hopefully we'll see. Good luck if you hunt.

We Northerners try and catch Wiley in weather extremes all the time. A coyote is always thinking about its next meal, next date, and its social life. They will still go out looking for food even in nasty weather conditions as their prey is often bedded down. Any call that seems to work that time of year for your location will be just as effective regardless of the weather.

Good luck.

X's 2. When it is nasty, they need nutrition even more. I have had great hunting in cold, nasty weather when I was doing allot of varmint calling. I have also noticed, they are out longer in the morning on day hunts as well, add earlier out in the evening too.
