so i was at academy the other day looking around and saw they had the 15 lb bag of evolved harvest maximize spring and summer plot seeds on clearance for 16$. will do a half acre per bag. got some spots at the lease i was wanting to put down some plots for spring and summer down in live oak county. I have access to tractor with disk and everything needed to do this stuff so thats not an issue. it is a mix of soybeans, sorghum, summer peas and sunflower. i assume this would also be good for dove, quail and turkey as well. if the directions are followed anyone ever have any success with this stuff. I picked up 10 bags and will prob do 2 plots in the 2-2.5 acre size.

Can you fence the plot off to keep livestock off? If not you are wasting your time and money since cattle will eat if before the deer even get a chance.

There is 6 of these pre fenced off sections on the property i will use. They are spread out nicely as well where the competition to get in can be evenly dispersed amongst the deer hear and still benefit the birds i am hoping. For the price of those bags on clearance i figured what the hell not alot of money to waste just a little time and some 13-13-13 fert but none of that is a big deal. just dont want to invest the time if that brand/ seed mixture is not good.

Pogue Agri-Partners in Kenedy sells mixes or just individual seeds so you can mix for deer if you want to plant in the future. Deer will eat introduced sunflowers so your chances of getting any to a seed crop for birds is minimal. Browntop Millet is a good choice for that area for birds. Just do not get it to thick for birds. Also if the feed panels are 34" tall then cattle will reach over the top to each the plants close to panels. I have this problem with cattle in Live Oak county wanting the Buffelgrass growing inside my pen there. Bull just lays/pushes over the panels or jumps the panels.

Well, seeing that you already bought and paid for 10 bags...............Not much you can do now but plant what you payed for.....

As STX said, you can buy all those types of seed separately, or as a mix the way you want if you are close to a mill, individual seed you can get at almost any seed&feed type store. The deal with mixes is to get all the relatively same size seed. Even if you have to top dress another round of small seed like a clover. Also as STX said, those seed you bought, will likely get grazed by deer at different times, which is good, sunflowers get hammered when they are less than 12", but little after that. Milo usually gets to a full head before they start stripping the seed heads.

western,
yeah i am going to plant what i got one way of the other. Was kind of an impulse buy that seemed ok. Even if it doesnt do anything i am not out to much. Just depends on how much time i invest prepping is all. Whether or not i half a** it or do it the right way.

Mix ought to do you good, if you can get timely rains.
