All things equal is there any significant accuracy differences in say a standard A2 flash hider and a barrel with a target crown? Trying to decide between ordering a threaded barrel or one with a target crown..

I am building a 6.8, going to go with either a 16 or 18 inch ARP barrel. This is going to be for pig hunting. I like the idea of a muzzle device so I can place the weapon muzzle down without worrying quite as much about damaging the barrel or getting debris/mud in it.

I lack a barrel, rail, and bolt so I am trying to iron that out so I can jump on a deal when one pops up.

Thanks,

I'd want a good crown AND threads.

That would be the best of both worlds. If you are pig hunting, you might end up wanting a suppressor on it later. It's hard to add a suppressor to a barrel unless it's threaded. I've shot an AR in 6.8 that was threaded and had only a thread protector. Shot great.

On my bolt guns I run a brake or suppressor. One or the other is on the end of the muzzle, all with a good crown. I use JEC brakes on the bolt guns, so that is what I would start with on an AR.

If you have to choose threaded barrel or target crown, I'd choose threaded barrel based on your intended usage.

Whats intended goal for the new rifle? That is how I would determine what type of device I'd put on the end.

A compact easy handling rifle for night-time pig hunting would be the main purpose. My 30/30 is an heirloom I don;t want to get into the wet or mud. .270 is nice but I am not getting a very quick second shot for another pig with it. I have a 20" A3 style AR that is a bit big and want a more powerful bullet.

I want accuracy and I would like to place the rifle muzzle down in the truck without worrying about getting the crown damaged or a piece of mud getting down in barrel.

I want something functional without looking over the top "tactical"

For nighttime use, I would go with a Smith Enterprises Vortex flash hider and call it good.

I put a levang linear compensator on my ar. The a2 was too loud for me.

You can always just go with a recessed crown if you think it would suit your purposes.
