17HMR from a Savage 93. Wanted something light & cheap to carry around the farm, most shots are less the 200 yds, possum, armadillo, coons, yotes, crows, nuisance type animals. Just happened to see it at the right price. Shoots subMOA at 100yds. Sometimes I will grab one of the lever 30-30 and can do the same thing out to 125, farther on yotes because they are bigger.

I recently stumbled across this little jewel below. It is a .22WMR semi auto made by Magnum Research ( the desert eagle guys) with a carbon fiber barrel and ultra light stock even with a scope they are super light. These things are crazy accurate at 50 yards you can key hole it. They are a little pricey at around $500 but are really reliable. I think they make them in .17hmr also. The only problem you might have is finding .22wmr ammo right now I hear it is scares in some areas. http://www.magnumresearch.com/Firearms/Magnum-Research-22LR-Rimfire-Rifle-18-inch-Ultra-Barrel.aspThis one is .22LR but they just came out with the same model in .22WMR

I fell in love with the ruger 77/17 in a wood stock with a rotary magazine. Great little gun. Could be had in 22 mag as well

I have both and use them both but probably use the 17HMR a little more because it has sling studs and the 22WMR does not. Both of mine are Savages and they are both sub-MOA at 100 yards. This is the 22WMR: This is the 17HMR: The 17HMR is topped with a 3-9x scope and the 22WMR is topped with a 6-18x. Ammo is not a problem where I live. I just picked a 1000 rounds for the 22WMR for $250 and have about 2000 on-hand for the 17HMR and can get it anytime for about the same price. They are excellent for coons, porcupines and snowshoe hare. I use them for coyote as a crime of opportunity but don't intentionally hunt coyote with them. I have also head shot a fair number of ruff grouse with them over the years.

I have both.
.22 Mag in a Marlin 918T blued/laminated stock. Shoots lights out at 100 yards.
.17 HMR in a CZ 455 Varmint blued/walnut stock. Shoots lights out at 150 yards.
Love them both.

If I had to pick one it would be the .22 mag. Just because it packs a little more punch.

Twins: one each of the 17 and 22 Mag, they are both very accurate. I also have this Excel Accelerator in 22 Mag, they seem to be fairly rare:

dang doc, nice little toys there.
I am really thinking about buying a new savage, but dont know between 22 mag and 17... not really a defined use for either, but just think that it would be fun.

Thank you!
The 17 is inherently more accurate and also shoots quite a bit faster so it will drop quite a bit less. I've killed everything from turtles to crows with mine. My Dad has killed a bunch of wild dogs and some yotes with his. Those ballistic tip 17 rounds are explosive on impact, but if you are going to consistently shoot anything bigger than coons I would get the 22 Mag, especially if most shots under 100 yards. If coons and smaller the 17 does more than the numbers would predict.

Different calibers designed for different things.
You need one of each.
