Have a ranch in Nocona and got a call this morning that something got after out domestic pigs last night. We have one bore and 4 sow's. Looks like the bore got it the worse. Minor scrapes/cuts and the sows just had blood on them but dont seem to have any cuts. One of the sows got out of the pen and was walking around but was staying near the others. One of the fence panels is all tore up and another section was moved/lifted up. Now this is all being described to me from my father in law so i cant describe it first hand. Guess my question is would this be yotes after them or a feral hogs? Father in law said there are hog tracks all around the pin but not sure if its from ours that got out or something else.

Boar's will fight, not usually the sows

Boar's will fight the sows. In fact, sows often have to protect the piglets from the boars, so yeah, boars will fight sows.

HHR, hogs don't know if they are domestic or feral. They just see each other as hogs. Feral hogs will often try to break in places in order to mate with a sow in heat or even to get at food.

So a boar could have done what you are saying happened. Given the other potential choices (which don't include bears, wolves, etc.), I would say it is a good possibility.

Boars will fight sows and boars will do whatever they can to get to a sow in heat. So, it could be a boar. I have also seen coyotes attack hogs. I would be looking for coyote tracks to rule it out.

Another thing to consider is that your boar was wanting one of the sows and there was a fracas. Look at the fence panel that was messed up and anything else out of place to see if you can determine if there was a break in or break out. Was there any digging around the pen? Inside or out?

I've seen boars running a sow, flanking her, she turning and ripping at the boars, boars fighting each other, all the while raisin' hell, screamin', a hell of of a fracas. I wouldn't rule out a boar coming in to check on the sows. The power these hogs put out is amazing when they get loving on the brain.

I just can't get my mind wrapped around bacon-on-bacon sex being called "loving."

I have seen sows fight panels and pens like crazy to get out to a boar that was just hanging around outside. The sows will fight each other to be the first in line, and they will also get after a boar that is taking his sweet time in getting the romance going.

The way you describe the scene, I would say an outside boar was fighting with the inside one through the pen fencing. Until the pen couldn't take it any longer and one or the other got in/out.

If your fenced pigs are on concrete, the hooves will be worn down. Feral hogs will have longer toe nails from being on dirt.

Maybe should have used "porking" instead of loving!

Feral hogs thing domesticated hogs are purty city girls.

An opportune time and place to leave it. She doesn't seem very receptive. Makes you wonder how they proliferate the way they do.

Well 3 months later and we have these. Not the best pics but we are still not sure if they are feral or not... my vote is that they are and if so what to do with the 9 that we have. The sow is half hampshire and bluebutt
