I know a lot of hunters on this forum don't like the idea of running hounds but my son would rather coon hunt than shoot a 180 inch buck any day of the week. Well from since he was born till he was around 6 I had a treeing walker that we coon hunted with. After he died a few years ago I kind of gave up coon hunting. My son now 9 has begged me to get another hound. Well my mother in law found him this red bone at a animal shelter. Never in my life did i think I would own a red bone but he is on cloud nine to have another hound. We havnt showed the dog a coon or anything yet so not sure if he will even bark at one but at this point I don't think my boy even cares. I'm glad he finally got him a dog:)

Good looking dog, and kid. They'll have a blast even if there are no coons. I have never had a dog to coon hunt. It has got to be a blast.

every boy has got to have a dog, when I was a lad, if the neighbors had any pups, guess who would come home with one, and I would have to take the pup back, we already had stock dogs.

It's getting hard to find places to coon hunt around our area is the only reason he has gone this long without one. I've never owned many dogs that weren't hunting dogs so I've said no to probably 200 muts. I'm hoping this one will make him happy for awhile.

Haven't had it in years but never spit any out. I am a sucker for happy endings and strapped cowboys.

Great picture. The way it ought to be.
