We have a few small groups left here but there is too many ducks and specks mixed in with them to bust out the cow silhouette and kill em. I wasn't sure if anyone made the trek to Arkansas or Missouri to kill any yet. We are heading to North Central Missouri from March 10-12, it looked like we were gonna miss it big time but that snow pushed em all back south. Might be decent after all.

Last hunted at our place near Nada on 2/7 and shot 30. Not many hanging around, but with a good south wind and they are on the move there are still some to be had.

Nw Missouri lost it's birds to the front, slowly starting to trickle back in.
I'll be headed that way Monday for three weeks of guiding

Lets hope they show up by the beginning of March. From the looks of the long term forecast (if it stays the same), March 6-8 should be some pretty awesome dates!!

Went to NE Arkansas last weekend. Plenty of geese there but could,nt do anything with them. Jump shooters were ridiculous. They,re coming there from 100,s of miles away to go "band hunting". Many of them look for bands on their kills and throw the birds in a ditch. It was dry and one guy drove his car out in a field and rushed some geese at 40+ mph then shot out the window. I won,t be going back there.

I'm ready for all the groundpounders and juke box hunters to go back to hunting ducks or canadas or whatever.

First time to hunt snows this weekend west of Houston - scouting report is decent. Not expecting to see a ton of birds but anything will do at this point!

We have been hunting them here south of Lubbock. Been chasing a group of around 8K. Not getting a ton of birds but better than doing yard work. Still fun just to watch the 40k cranes and 15k Canada's fly around while waiting for the snows to come in.

Got a few Saturday. Saw a good number of birds but not a lot of finishers. 7-8 groups of 20+ got withing 80-100 yards but didn't like something. Only 2 groups came all the way in and we got a handful. Still a great time but we did get frustrated with our guide as his caller didn't work and I'm not sure we weren't getting busted due to poor concealment in the spread and no calling. Was my first snow hunt so lessons learned!

Not sure on the caller deal, but it's tough to hide on greens. Whites are about your best bet, especially with a decent sized group of people.

It is tough to hide from snows in any case. They are just tough birds to fool. Then there are days you couldn't run them out of a field with a bullhorn stuck in a bull's arse.

It was worth it just to see so many birds. Lots of specks flying with some of the snows and a bunch of cranes roaming around. Twice when it looked like birds were going to come in a turkey vulture came out of nowhere between us & the birds and they flared. Still a pretty awesome show to have a front row seat at!

Hunted in Brinkley, Ar this past weekend. If you happened to follow Arkansas weather, you know it was about as bad as it could get. Rain, snow, sleet, high winds and cold temps. We even got so much rain on Saturday that one field of 1000 decoys and 10 layouts went completely under water. Couldn't see a single decoy. The hunting was awful. The vast majority of the birds are between Stuttgart and Dewitt. Saw a big feed of probably 30-40k right outside Stuttgart and a few smaller groups (Couple thousand apiece) around there. There really wasn't much north of us that I saw. I did talk to one group that looked around Jonesboro and they confirmed that it was pretty bleak.
That's all I got on the sky carp! Hope those of you that are chasing them in the coming weeks experience much better hunting than we did.

This is the first year my folks haven't had snows stay on their wheat for more than a day. This whole season has been tough, for both ducks and geese, particularly the second split.
Spots that have typically been good didn't have nearly the same number of birds as years past and I used to think it was primarily water and weather related. Now, I'm leaning towards the significant rise in popularity of waterfowl hunting. Birds are responding to increased pressure and have definately gotten smarter because of it.
I used to rarely see folks in some of the public areas hunt and moderate numbers in others. Now, they're covered up with hunters. Even spots way off the beaten path.

Hey curious if anyone knows - we had to pull teeth to get to hunt this past weekend and the season runs through March - are most of the birds usually gone or it is not worth the guides time to hunt groups of 30-40 vs 300+? Seems like there are a ton of birds still around but all of the guides are done for the season...

There may be birds around, but they can be there one day and gone the next.

Everybody is so focused on birds and not on the increased amount of birdhunters in texas. Thats the killer. Texas dubled the amount of duckhunters in the last 10 years Thats A LOT

I was invited on a hunt with Drake Plantation south of Winnie this morning and we shot 17. 16 out of the first volley and a single ross goose. Biologists at Anahuac NWR said that only 5% of the birds they catch when banding are juvies. That first volley must have been all juvies because they made one pass and about 300 almost lit in the decoys. After the first volley all of the 12 year old adults flew over and laughed at us. We probably saw 2,000 geese all morning.
Heading to Missouri this Saturday to hunt Sunday-Tuesday with Habitat Flats.

Scratch that, they moved us back to our original dates of March 10-12 due to the weather.
