My brother in law killed a deer this past season and I butchered it for him and made hamburger. He decided to move to Colorado cause he and his girlfriend really like to smoke pot. He didn't have room for an ice chest with all his bongs and Led Zeplin records so now I have his meat taking up room in my freezer and I want to ship him some. I figured cheapo Styrofoam cooler and dry ice inside a cardboard box. Is this the way to go?
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Id just keep it and hope he never came back. Thing is I don't have any room to spare in my freezer and my wife wants get an axis this spring. We've been doing our part eating about 4 meals of venison a week but it'll be a while before we have room for an axis buck. Plus it's his and he likes to make some venison tacos and pizza when he gets the munchies.
Just to make sure that it is done thoroughly, I go both ways.

Check with a local pet store that sell fish for a used Styrofoam cooler. The fish are shipped in Styrofoam coolers that are extra thick, strong etc. to withstand shipping and handling. Pack with a little dry ice and overnight it using Fed Ex.

not sure where to buy them but we did a fishing trip off the Oregon/Washington coast, and the bait shop sold airline approved containers that you could fly with to bring fish home. Of course the airlines have changed their rules and you can not use dry ice any longer but have to use frozen gel packs. We froze the fish and stuffed a gel pack in the bottom, then all the fish (vacuum sealed) and a gel pack on top, then duct taped it closed. We were 2 hours from the airport, plus couple hours before our flight, flight home, then hour drive ... forgot and left box in back of car until next morning but the fish was still frozen solid. I bet Fedex/UPS has containers for shipping frozen stuff and directions on how they would prefer it be packaged & iced.

I get boudain shipped all the time like that; pre cool the styro and place hard frozen meat in it, duct tape the seam, place in box, and next day it. Heck even fresh shrimp comes that way too.

Dude... don't be cheap buy your brother a 65qt yeti and ship it in that. When he's done unpacking the meat he will than have a coffee table to place all his bongs on as well a place to store his munchies

I figured cheapo Styrofoam cooler and dry ice inside a cardboard box. Is this the way to go? Had friends from Atlanta come hunt deer last year. Sent it to them in an HEB crawfish cooler with 20 pounds of dry ice next day air. Still rock solid when they got it.

You can get beef steaks from the midwest that are shipped in styro coolers. It won't take much dry ice if the meat is frozen inside the cooler overnight then sealed the next day. You could also put a frozen milk jug of water in the middle of the cooler with meat stacked around it.

I've shipped Blue Bell to Nashville on a greyhound bus. They had to let it set out to thaw it was to hard to scoop when they picked it up. Small foam ice chest "cheapo" 2 Sunday Houston Post and a small amount of dry ice----lots of masking tape it was bullet proof. Usually arrived in two-three days.

As already mentioned, check with the shipper as some do not allow dry ice. The primary reason is that dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. As it "melts," the carbon dioxide can fill a cargo hold which may also contain live animals.

If he is flying back to visit or you are going to visit him, you can take it ion the airplane. Check with airline, but I flew back from NM and brought meat in a cheap coleman cooler, had to duct tape it closed and checked it as a extra bag.
