I didn't think you could do your fingerprints before the class. It's been a year since I did mine though.

Yes where I took mine they preferred you get your finger prints before the class.

Mine took right at 3 weeks to get back.

Well dang, that would have saved me a week. The instructions I got before my class said to do it after.

I take mine on Saturday. Will see how long the wait time is. Only thing left for me to do before hand is to send in a copy of my DD Form 214 online. After that I will have all turned in except for the instructor's part to send in.

Picked up a new gun to me this past weekend. Guess I should go fire off a few rounds before Saturday morning.

Congratulations. Now also go take a defensive pistol class to learn and improve your skills of which many are needed beyond just shooting skill, and to have a fuller understanding of what you are taking on.

So shooting at an assailant is different than punching paper?

I think what he's saying is most people punch paper on a typical gun range, and never practice shooting on the move, reloads, shooting from cover, verbal commands, weapon retention, threat assessment, etc.

I know. That was my sarcastic way of saying he's absolutely right.

CSAT in Nacogdoches is awesome.

Hardwired tactical shooting is local to DFW and outstanding.

Thunder Ranch in Oregon is pricy but great if you can afford it.

Magpul Dynamics and EAG Tactical are traveling courses that come to this area occasionally.

These are nationally known trainers that have seen the elephant. Beware of local gurus that have little or no real world experience. Gun fighting is not a book learning endeavor. Google any of these schools for information.

Of the courses listed, I have first hand experience with all but EAG Tactical. I have friends that I trust who speak highly of EAG Tactical.

Training is expensive. I don't have a $99 life so I don't look for $99 specials on training. YMMV.

There is a shooting school in Gainesville that has traveling instructors come and teach courses. Last year they had Larry Vickers, Travis Haley, and Chris Costa out with many more. I didn't have the money to splurge on one of their classes but wish I did. Not sure what their schedule is like this year. You can find their site here.
