Went to the barber today and he had a new Ruger LCP in 380 for his wife. He has already had one for himself. I was amazed at how light and thin it was. Fits in the pocket really well. I was thinking that I might get one, but I worry about a pistol with no safety (ease up, you Glocksters). And I got to thinking that there might be a better choice. And then I got to thinking that you guys would know and have probably already argued about it.

So what's the best choice in tiny pistols like the LCP? I don't mind spending money on it, so going cheap isn't necessary.

I'd also like to hear about different choices in smaller concealable guns fit for women. I heard the LCP is difficult for women to rack the slide. I've heard a lot of great things about the Sig Sauer p238 for a 380. But it's still something I need to see for myself. I'd like to hear everyone's thoughts also.

It's an awesome little gun. Just adds a little weight. Otherwise if you just HAVE to have that external safety(that could catch on your pocket) it's great! The LCP is just more comfy.

Sig P238 or Sig P938 great smaller framed pistols. My wife now shoots my P938 and I moved up to a Sig 1911.

LCP gets my vote. While good guns, I don't like the Mustang, Micro Carry, 238, because of the controls. TCP is a winner, too. Taurus gets a rap, but we've sold near 100 of them and never had to send one back. Bodyguard has a ton of features, but the trigger sucks.

I like the 1911 style .380, colt and sig. single action trigger and a safety. hate the llloooonnnnggg trigger pulls on the others, not conducive to first shot hits even though if you are needing this gun to stop a wolf, may not matter

I shot maybe 50 rounds at the range one day. Had my fill and never shot it again. Never had a hiccup tho!

P238 is an awesome little pistol. Slide is very easy for the missus to rack.

I have a Seecamp . I think it's a little jewel.

Kahr p380 has a better felt recoil system than an LCP and weighs about 10 oz. the sigs are slightly heavier and some don't want [censored] n lock in their pocket. The LCP and keltec are quite snappy with no sights.

The 238 can be complicated for someone who is not firearm proficeint.

The LCP has an awful trigger and my wife had issues pulling it with her tiny fingers.

The PPK and Kahr CW 380 have a tough slide for small weak hands.

The Taurus TCP seems to be the best one in the market with an easy slide and trigger. It is also the cheapest. It was very reliable. It seems rather cheesy with plastic and such but proved to be functional.

The wife chose the bersa Thunder and the Kahr 380. She has both. I feel that neither suit her as well as the Taurus TCP but she couldn't tolerate the cheapness of it. I wish she would have kept it.

She actually had and shot all the pistols listed above and so did I. For man hands I liked the PPK the best. NOT PPK-S or any other configuration. With the 238 coming in second but it's single action only.

I'll second that. The Kahr has less felt recoil than any of the competitors in its weight class.

I own a newer Ruger LCP, and the trigger wasn't anything as bad as I kept reading online. My female friends enjoy shooting it. When I got mine, I had to take it apart, clean it, and work the action a bit to get it broken in. Seams about par for the course on most new firearms though.

I think there are a lot of good pocket pistols out there today, but the LCP gets my vote for price and dependability. Mine was 269$ new from SPortsmans Warehouse last summer. The Sigs and Colt pocket pistols are super nice too, but I couldn't bring myself to throw down that much money on a pocket pistol.


These pocket guns are not target pistols, so I don't mind the heavier trigger pull or lack of sights.

S & W Airweight J frame in .22WMR. Had the hammer bobbed so D/A only. 7 round cylinder. Easily carried and concealed.

Ideal cartridge? Probably not, but it's better then that can of wasp spray, my dingbat sister insist's is ideal for personal protection...........

My old colt pony pocket light is my favorite, but still carry the LCP more. I won't carry cocked and locked in my pocket or I'd be all over the Sig.

I can't believe after all these years some more competition hasn't come out for the LCP. I was hoping Glock would but the 42 is a lot bigger.

The Kahr P380 looked pretty good. The Sig P238 looked even better. But the LCP is only 10 ounces. That's a serious selling point. I'll take the wife and look at all of them. I know she'll want something that won't be too hard to rack the slide. She struggles with the Beretta PX4 that we have. Actually, "struggles" suggests that she can sometimes work the action, which she couldn't do if her incentive was being surrounded by the walking dead. Probably we'll go with whatever she can make function.

Durn, don't go bad mouthing the wasp spray... Available in multiple shot cans, accuracy covers a pie pan at 15 feet, never jams, and .... you don't have to worry about shooting your eye out. Plus the low cost allows for long practice times and it is easy to find ranges to practice and targets are cheap. Comes with built in suppressor.

The others mentioned are good but THIS is a great little pistol.
