Gentlemen,

I have a question for the group:

I have a short barreled .308 (it's a LaRue with the welded / pinned flash hider that can also serve as a QD for a suppressor) that I'd like to scope with an older 3-12x56 scope. My reasoning for putting such a big scope on the gun is to use it to shoot pigs across long fields in the evening and at night (at night I'd employ the use of a green light). However, before mounting the scope, I started looking at how close the objective lens of the scope would be to the muzzle of the gun, and it gave me pause. If the muzzle of the gun is 5-6" from the objective lens of a scope, is that bad? Also, assuming I one day acquire a suppressor with its inherent blow-back, would that be an issue, too?

TIA,
LA airhunter

Post a picture of your set up. I can't see how the objective would be that close to the muzzle. What is the barrel length?

5-6" should be fine. You might get a little soot drifting back on the lens, but it's placement won't cause any damage.

I can't see any harm being done since the blast wont be coming straight back on to the glass. Think about the guys that run scopes on TC pistols. The only negative is going to be seing the fireball at night, but thats just cool.
