Or is it more like they pay a PERCENTAGE of wholesale (60%, 70%, 80%, etc) based on condition?

If you bring it in it legally is not NIB and cannot be sold as such by a licensed firearms dealer. It would be considered used and 99%. You or I as individuals could advertise it as NIB and sell it no problem, but not a dealer. The wholesale price of a used firearm is based on condition. So say you have a used firearm to sell and the dealer judges it to be in 75% condition. What you will be offered is nominally based on the blue book value of that firearm in that condition. So if the wholesale blue book value at 100% is $800.00 then you would be offered $600.00. But if the firearm is in high demand you could be offered more and conversely you could be offered less.

Time of year plays a factor also. If tomorrow I decided to sell my Vanguard 30-06 I would try to wait until late August to sell it, unless I had an emergency and needed cash.

Thanks for the explanation--I did notice this last weekend that there were fewer used gun racks out on the floor. Do they usually offer more value if it's being traded TOWARDS another gun in stock, versus paying cash?

I have no idea. One thing I forgot to mention is this. At Cabela's, say if you trade in a gun for $300.00 credit and apply it towards the purchase of a gun that cost $800.00 then you only pay tax on the difference - $500.00. I would assume other dealers do the same.

I think I met you at the DSC show. If you are the same guy shoot me a PM I had told you I would be interested in building customs for your library

Wasn't me. I bet it was someone that works in the Gun Library, I work the Gun Counter. Might have been Jason.

Booradley, you're correct. Other dealers do the same. You only pay taxes on the difference in values. I like that at gun shows.

Used to be able to make good trade in deals at the Buda store. Then new management ruined it, I had gotten a few HK USP pistols cheap they gave me %50 blue book which was actually $100 more per pistol then I paid. Ah the good old days.

You are correct, I don't care. This bashing is getting pretty funny though. I get asked a couple of times a day if we buy or take trade ins on used guns. My response is always, "Yes but you need to understand you will be offered wholesale, not retail. If you have a gun that is worth $500.00 we will offer you $250.00-$300.00." I've then done my job as a caring human bean.
