My boys have been shooting my AR's for years. Finally my oldest wanted one of his own. We were at the local funshow yeaterday and we saw what I thought was a pretty good buy but there was a line for checkout with the dealer and he had to get to work.

I told him we'd go back this morning and get it if it was still there. I pretty much expected it to be gone, but it wasn't. It's not the fanciest and I know DPMS doesn't have the best rep - but for the price it was hard to pass up since it had the features he wanted (rifle length, A1 style sights) which are not the easiest features to find these days.

The rifle is a NIB DPMS Panther A1 20" Lite...the price - $490 plus tax. Been awhile since I've seen a production AR under $500 at a gunshow.

Now to get him out to the range smile

Earl

I have a 20" DPMS A2 heavy barrel. It's been 100% reliable and issue free since day one. I love mine, I'm sure you'll like yours.

You did good. cheers

Yep, he already has some in mind...I wish they had had 2 of them...I already have an Aero Precision/BCM 20" AR15A4 but at that price I would have probably got one of these for myself too.

hahaha, sweet! another old school shooter. Don't get me wrong, I totally recognize that a shorter barreled AR with a flat top for optics flexibility is awesome. HOWEVER, fixed stock rifle length AR's with carry handles are awesome too.
I love it!

I think thats an awesome find, congrats to your son for going old school. I think that you did well on the price and it should be a good shooter.

Can tell your raising your boy right, first he wants an AR of his own. Secondly, "he had to go to work." Glad to see at least some people are doing it right

Not a danged thing wrong with "old school." It has a certain appeal of its own.

Cool!

My first AR was a DPMS Panther A3 lite. Very nice gun that shot great, but would open up pretty big groups after 20-30 rounds. Would go from 1" at 50 yards to 6" real quick. But I never had any major issues with it. Only upgrade I did was a Bill Springfield trigger job, which was well worth the money.

Congrats on the purchase. I'm sure your son is excited about it. Every firearm, knife, etc I've received from my dad has been a special treat because I know he got them with me in mind.
