When you clean, between solvents, is there a chem which will neutralize what ever is in your bore. RE; you let Wipe Out sit in the bore over nightie, you "patch out" "dry" if you feel you're not clean yet, is there something you run down the bore before you send another chemical down it? Or am I way over thinking it,,,,,,,,,again..... sorry, little drunk too

I guess it depends on what chemicals you are using. Some don't mix well, but most if not all chemicals found in bore cleaning products should be compatible with one another...

Ha. Another philosophical drunk. Me too. When I clean handguns/rifles I use the regular solvents w/out waiting/worrying about it. Then I lay all pieces out to air dry for an hour or so... Then lightly oil, and reassemble firearm.

Gun oil, rem-oil, etc. some type of lubricant has always been sufficient for me. I've run Wipe-Out and now Patch-Out almost exclusively for about 15 years now and it seems to be a lot less drama in that regard. Running Hoppe's and other less viscous solvents are like putting pancake syrup on a patch compared to that stuff. The only thing that has ever really made me nervous is CR-10 which by all accounts is nothing but pure ammonia, or atleast that's how it smells. I quit using it some time ago. If/when I was changing solvents, I'd patch out the current solvent. Then run a wet oiled patch down, then a dry patch, then use the next solvent. Should be fine.

Just make sure it's dry...if patch out/wipe out won't get it clean then I'd use some sort of bore paste because odds are another cleaner isn't going to get it cleaner. That's my experience anyway.

I will sometimes let patch out (with no accelerator) sit in my gun over nite...I leave the gun in a vice to keep the barrel horizontal so the stuff doesn't run into my action.

For cleaning my rifles, I have a 10 stroke process that seems to work well. 10 passes with wire brush, followed by 10 passes with cotton swab with RemOil, then 10 passes with swatches, and thats all I've ever needed. My pistols get the same treatment. I've never left any chemical sitting in the barrel overnight.

BP...that is because you are using what I'll call brute force to clean (referring to a brush) and I have several barrels that have never had a brush in them. Patch out chemically cleans, no brush needed, so I can leave it in overnite and allow the chemicals to really work on the tough stuff. Generally speaking though I keep mine clean enough don't have to do that.

I'm convinced that people do more damage to a barrel cleaning than anything else.

where can one get this WIPEOUT/PATCHOUT ??

I'm not sold on chemicals left in the barrel, what I do works for me, and it allows me to know exactly where my bullet will impact on a clean cold bore. I don't like to remove every bit of fouling in the barrel, I believe it's there for a reason and should remain there. To each his own,

I've heard gunsmiths say more than once that improper cleaning has damaged rifle barrels more than anything else. Just using common sense is what matters most.

When it comes to damage to metal, moisture, and anything that holds it, is the enemy. A little copper fouling is fine and may actually improve accuracy, whereas powder residue will hold moisture and damage metal as well as a damp gun case. It's the ability of oil and even wax to put a protective barrier between metal and moisture that makes them work.

Agreed...if what works for you then that is good and keep using it. I used to use BoreTech Eliminator and a brush previously, it worked just as well as the patchout. I know that because I've seen both through a bore scope and compared them before I would switch...no way did I believe it before I saw it for myself.
