Got a juvenile and his momma this weekend. Both with the ol' Ruger .22 I keep under the pickup backseat. I absolutely hate 'em. Worse than rats. I try to tell everyone I know that has seen them at their house to kill 'em. They look at me like I'm crazy. Smarter than a rat and can get in places a 'coon can't. They always run like they know you're after them. Cedar and rock squirrels - kill 'em all.

I have definitely done my part. But I hate raccoons even more.

I started to take a picture this morning of the momma with blood running outa her nose and her well-worn teets, but I thought it'd be over the top. There's more of 'em out there. "I'll be back."

I have no idea. But, if you see a black squirrel and it's running like it stole something, try to kill it. Trust me. If you want to fry it up and try it, it's a free country and your report back will be read.

I hate the dam things. Chew up wires, get in the feed and they even stuffed the tailpipe of my truck full of corn. Trapping them is the only way I can get them.

Used to have hunting property between Christoval & San Angelo, these critters were a real nusiance. They are super wary and I once watched one remain motionless for over one hour.I always thought they were related more to a prairie dog than a tree rat. They seem to be attracted to old abandoned structures.

I see them around the hill country (Fredericksburg to Boerne) area. Yeah, abandoned structures are their love. I have an old barn I "let be" on my place. 'Guess I need to get my butt busy and tidy up the area.

When my folks bought an old German homestead in '68, we battled them like the plague restoring the place.

Saw a lot of them when I had a lease on the Lampassas River at Adamsville. Haven't seen one since then.

I can remember pursuing them as a kid on my grandparent's place in Blanco County. Haven't seen one since, didn't know they were still around.

This brings back memories of our lease in Camp Wood many years ago. Those boogers were wary and hard to kill.

Hey when I was kid we were down in Llano and saw one of them rascals runnin up a big ol rock. He looked like a trophy at the time because id never seen one or killed one before. You know I was one of them if it walks talks or flys shoot it kids. Used to skin them things and nail em to a trophy board.

When I was a kid we would go to Llano a lot to visit family. We shot a few along with the regular gray squirrels. The rock squirrel for whatever reason did not taste very good. Dad always said that they not worth eating. The ones that I shot were pitch black instead of being a mixture of gray like the pic of yours.

Never knew they were a separate species of squirrel. Just thought it were a color phase. Haven't seen many of them.

Don't you love it when you're sitting in the woods trying to enjoy the peace and quiet and a squirrel comes over to you and starts giving you a cussing? Makes you want to blast 'em.
