Got an e-mail from Midway yesterday. They have "steel core penetrator" ammo that has no lead in it. They don't actually call it M855. $499.99 for 1000 rounds.

Found it several other places, but it appears to be SS109/M855. Are you sure it was Midway?

Yes it was Midway. That stuff in your link is the same stuff that Midway is selling but I don't believe its a true SS109/M855 bullet. Nowhere on the can or on the packs is it marked as such and with a non-lead core I don't see how it can be a "real" 855 round. I think Midway does a good job of calling it what it is when they call it a "NATO penetrator". I would like to know how Aimsurplus can call it a 855 when even the manufacturer appears to no do it themselves.

I think at best they should call it a "M855/SS109 style bullet".

Just left Academy in Mesquite and they have 15 120 round packs of American Eagle M855 for $59.99 each. They are sitting where there is a $89.99 price tag so I figure that's why they haven't sold. Took them to the price checker and they rang up $59.99. I didn't buy any so they were all still there as of 1/2 hour ago.

Just left Garland Academy. They have 5 packs of 120 rounds for $59.99 each. Really surprised to see this stuff still showing up on shelves. Another 2 weeks and people will be paying $1 a round for this stuff and be happy to do it. hammer

Even though it would be for the armor piercing rounds there will most likely be a run on 556/223 ammo in the near future. In fact, our friends at Cheaper than Dirt (McKinney location) have been nice enough to already mark up all of their 556/223 ammo for us. I was there today and asked why there regular 556 FMJ was now $24.99 and just a few days ago it was $9.99. The cheapest 223 ammo I saw was $29.99 and up. He said it has always been that price which I know to be a lie.

All this to be said, stock up while you can at the Walmart, Academy, etc. and don't spend your money at CTD. They love to price gouge and are at it again!

Good luck and good shooting!

yup-, that was fast;
ALL the 223 at Natchezss that was under 50c a round: GONE!

this includes even the non-green tip 223!

the 223 hoarding has begun (again...)

I don't know...damn if people want to pay that much for it I may just sell mine and get M193 instead though (as long as I can find it at normal prices that is)....I mean that's seriously messed up...$100 for 100 rounds...I'm still waiting my last can of M193 from PSA...420 rounds on strippers delivered for $159.

Yup. This is how they conduct business.

But hey! They'll have plenty of their high priced ammo available for those that just GOTTA have it when no one else does. That way it keeps the prices high for everyone! bang

Be careful pointing that out, though. Apparently it's normal to not buy until the prices spike and folks will jealously defend their practice of doing so. "Hey, I NEEDED it right then!" is the well planned response to their lack of planning in the first place. You'll be painted as an anti-capitalist.

And it's just what the current administration wants. Why not help them make everyone play ball? juggle

Same guy.. This has got to be an inside job & they're just waiting for someone else to jump in & actually buy it.. Like Justin said, no other auctions are going this high..

You are right about the anti-capitalism label. I'm all for capitalism but not when you are deliberately screwing your customers. When we had the semi-auto ban scare they cancelled orders - told the customer their rifle was out of stock and then sent them an email the next day saying their rifle was back in stock but the new price is $1000 more for their rifle. That's just wrong on every level. Unfortunately, it won't stop with CTD - they have gotten away this for the last decade and yet people still seem to come flocking back to them. I would encourage each of you to tell your friends about how they do business.

I got a 50cal ammo can full of the green stuff. I use it to plink with, not really much good for anything else. If it gets up to $1 a round I'll definitely be selling my lot and buying about 1K rounds of 300BLK and re-barreling my SBR to 300BLK. This stuff is crazy why do people fall for this crap every single time?

Lack of planning due to not staying informed.

I just picked up 90 rounds of SS109 for $0.34 a round. I told my brother about it and he had me pick him up 150 rounds for him.

God has a plan and something special in mind for all of us. Do you know the direction that God wants to send you?

I stopped into three different gun shops in a 100 mile spread. Not one had any 223 ammo cheaper than 50 cents apiece. The M855 stuff was sitting out on all the counters as an advertisement as a "buy me now" tactic. I was out surfing for 22LR firearms, mainly for the kids. Came home with a couple, as the stores are not moving these really well due to their suppliers not getting much rimfire ammo.

Gun show today had people selling it from $.80 to $1 per round for the most part. Saw one guy selling loose cans of it for $479 per 1K and he claimed it was 855 but it wasn't green tip and I didn't have a magnet to check for the steel tip. Either way I have no idea what brand it was or if it was reloads or not. I wasn't looking to buy any anyway so it didn't matter.

Did see one guy walking around with a big sign trying to trade a bunch for a Berretta pistol I believe. Also got a kick out of the guys claiming it would be illegal to sell after its banned. From what I understand its just going to affect the importation and manufacturer of the ammunition. Not the possession, use, or sell of the ammo.

Those that gotta have it at any price and buy when the time is exactly wrong definitely help drive the lunacy.
